2020 LPL Finals, two teams have persevered.

TES continues to defy expectations and their next challenge is facing the dominant team, JDG. For JDG, this is their second time making the finals for the LPL Spring playoffs and they are more determined than ever to become champions this time.

2020 has been a particular year. The esports community has faced many difficulties and challenges. For the LPL, the spring split was shortened to eight weeks and the league transitioned from offline games to online.

It is through this flexibility that the audience were able to see an endless number of entertaining stories arise from the League of Legends and LPL community this spring. In particular, the new team, eStar, took the LPL by storm and defied all expectations.

This year, some players became even more motivated after heartbreaking losses, while others turned their backs on their former teams and picked up new banners. With the month of May starting, fans around the world bid farewell to the Spring season to usher in the LPL finals. 17 teams fought their hearts out, but there can only be one champion.

TES and JDG, Two Teams Emerge.

Two teams that have never won the league championship and have never entered the world stage will be moving into the finals. In their journey to the finals, JDG and TES faced immense obstacles like the S8 and S9 world champions FPX and IG.

The 2020 Spring playoffs semifinals had the same four matchups as 2019. JDG vs IG; TES vs FPX.  For 2019, JDG accomplished the unthinkable in the playoffs, starting from 8th seed, JDG fought through all the top teams in the LPL including FPX in the semifinals to finally face and lose to iG in the finals.

TES was also blocked by the nightmare that was IG on numerous occasions. The two teams clashed in the 2018 Demacia Cup finals, with TES losing 1:3 against IG. TES then lost again to IG in the 2019 Spring Split semifinals and then lost their tickets to worlds when IG defeated them again in the 2019 LPL regional finals later that year. The match was hard-fought but theShy picked his signature Vladimir in game 5 of the BO5 and lead his team, IG, to victory and advancement into the world championships.

TES

JDG and TES faced some tough losses in 2019, but this year, both teams were faced the same showdowns and managed to change their fate. TES faced IG again in the semifinals and took them down 3:1. JDG also faced their previous spring semifinal rivals FPX; and they won again. TES avenged their previous years defeat while JDG solidified their dominance further.

Tomorrow, no matter which team wins the final, the LPL will usher in the birth of brand new champions. Both teams have fought hard over the past two years, each showing skill and moments of genius. But when it came down to the big prize, it was stolen away from each team. JDG and TES have brought many new faces to the LPL, created a lot of classic moments, and left many good memories. However, no matter how much they persevered and how much they exceeded their limits, there was never a moment of ultimate glory and payoff at the end.

Now, both teams finally have the opportunity to take their first steps on the stage of the Spring Finals and become first time champions.
