Okay, Xbox fans … The official lineup for Xbox Games with Gold is here (and I must say, it’s a good lineup). Replacing Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, INSIDE, and Meet The Robinsons will be Gears of War 4, Forza Motorsports 6, Torchlight, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadows. Big Crown Showdown will still be available until August 15th. Let’s take a look at each game that’s coming to Games with Gold this August.
Gears of War 4 — Released on October 11th, 2016 from developer The Coalition, Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after the events of Gears of War 3. Although the use of the Imulsion Countermeasure weapon destroyed all Imulsion on the planet Sera, killing the Locust and the Lambent in the process, the weapon forced humanity to adapt to new ways of survival after knocking out the use of fossil fuels and bringing across the planet powerful windstorms called “Windflares.” Many gameplay elements from the previous games are reintroduced, along with new elements such as the Dropshot weapon that fires explosive drills and the Buzzkill that fires ricocheting saw-blades at enemies. Players can also perform a short distance shoulder charge (knocking enemies off balance) and enemies can also pull players out of cover and perform their own takedowns. The game features four categories of weather: from heavy breeze (trees, leaves, and dust kicking up) to violent category three windstorms that can affect combat and weapon usage. Like previous entries in the series, the story campaign can be played through cooperatively with a second player in a local or online co-operative mode. Gears of War 4 will be available to download on August 1st to the 31st.
Forza Motorsports 6 — Developed by Turn 10 Studios and published by Microsoft Studios for the Xbox One, it is the sixth Forza Motorsport and eighth overall installment in the Forza series and was released worldwide on September 15, 2015. Forza Motorsport 6 features new gameplay elements, such as rain and night racing returned from the first title. Also featured is a new story mode called “Stories of Motorsport” which offers approximately 70 hours of gameplay. Forza Motorsport 6 features more than 450 cars, more than twice the number of cars in Forza Motorsport 5, and 27 tracks(seven are new to this game along with returning ones). Forza Motorsports 6 will be available on August 16th until September 15th.
Torchlight — Originally released on the Xbox 360 on March 9, 2011, the player controls a lone hero who explores a series of randomized dungeons, fighting large numbers of enemies, and collecting equipment, gold, and other loot. The game also features a single town which serves as a hub, to which the player-character can periodically return to in order to buy and sell items to NPC vendors and obtain quests. As the protagonist delves into the dungeon, a series of quests are presented which involve battling unique bosses that advance the main storyline. Optionally, the player may take on side quests, random quests, or visit branching dungeon areas. Torchlight will be available on August 1st to the 15th.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadows — Originally released on October 5th, 2010, the game is a reboot of the Castlevania series. Set in Southern Europe during the Middle Ages, the story focuses on Gabriel Belmont and his quest to defeat a malevolent order known as the “Lords of Shadow” and resurrect his wife. The player controls Gabriel in 3D environments as he uses melee skills to defeat enemies and solve puzzles to move through the game. The game will be available on August 16th until the 31st.
Don’t forget to grab the remaining games from July before it’s too late, and stay tuned for more from GamingLyfe!
