The cast and crew of the upcoming sci-fi thriller Fort Solis have shared an insightful behind-the-scenes video discussing game acting and motion capture challenges. Developed by Fallen Leaf in partnership with Dear Villagers, Fort Solis boasts an all-star cast, including Red Dead Redemption 2 lead Roger Clark.
The panel, recorded at PAX East and titled “Bringing Characters to Life: Game Acting and Motion Capture in Fort Solis,” delves into the intricacies of acting for video games and the unique challenges associated with performance capture. As the video game industry continues to evolve and adopt new technology, actors can now deliver more nuanced performances, elevating storytelling to unprecedented heights.
The distinguished cast of Fort Solis features Roger Clark (Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption II, Back For Blood), Julia Brown (The Last Kingdom, World on Fire), and Troy Baker (The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite). Game Director James Tinsdale also participated in the panel, hosted by Alanah Pearce (AKA Charalanahzard, IGN, Cyberpunk 2077, God Of War).
Set for a PlayStation 5 and PC release this summer, Fort Solis takes place in an enigmatic, abandoned mining facility on Mars. Players will explore the station at their own pace, collecting clues from bunkers, labs, crew quarters, and the planet’s stormy surface to uncover the chilling mysteries that occurred there. As the night unfolds and events escalate, players must race against time to find the Fort Solis crew members and escape with the story.
Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Fort Solis offers an immersive environment set in the far reaches of space. The talented cast of actors helps ground the game’s hard sci-fi drama through a seamless experience with no camera cuts, load times, or HUD.
In Fort Solis, players will make real-time decisions as they piece together the sinister forces responsible for the events at the mining facility.
