Korean developer and publisher Pearl Abyss made an exciting announcement today regarding their popular MMO, Black Desert Online. The company revealed that the game’s first major expansion in 2023, titled “Land of the Morning Light,” will be launching worldwide on Wednesday, June 14th. Alongside this news, Pearl Abyss shared details about the upcoming content, including the release windows for the Awakening of the Woosa class on Wednesday, May 31st, and the Maegu class in June.
Adventurers who are eager to embark on this new adventure can pre-order the Land of the Morning Light Edition DLC package on Steam or purchase it directly from the in-game Pearl Shop. The expansion is available at a limited-time price of $49.99, offering a 51% discount off the total price, which is normally valued at $102.50.

Coming directly from the Land of the Morning Light, the original twin female classes, Woosa and Maegu, are set to receive their long-awaited awakenings. These awakenings will bring forth new looks, skills, and fighting abilities for both classes.
Woosa’s Awakening revolves around the divine power harnessed from otherworldly flowers. With a hybrid combat style focused on mid-range attacks, Woosa employs a set of charms as her main weapon, which her sister Maegu also utilizes. Adventurers can expect Woosa’s Awakening to arrive on Wednesday, May 31st.
Maegu, on the other hand, embarks on her Awakening quest to gain profound insight into herself and re-learns how to wield her sister’s main weapon, the fan. Maegu excels in fiery attacks and adopts a melee-heavy combat approach. The Awakening for Maegu’s class is scheduled to arrive in June.
FIGHT MYTHICAL BOSSES
Land of the Morning Light introduces a series of formidable bosses inspired by Korean folklore and legends. Each boss possesses one of three attributes: Sun, Moon, or Earth, which directly affect their Attack Power (AP) and Defense Power (DP).
As players progress through the expansion, they will obtain “Light Orbs” in limited quantities. These orbs function as points that allow players to enhance the Sun, Moon, or Earth attributes, enabling them to deal more damage to the bosses while reducing the damage received. Additionally, Pearl Abyss has developed a brand new boss, known as Imoogi, which will be available globally on June 14th, adding to the roster of challenging encounters.
Global players will also have the opportunity to engage in the new Black Desert Boss Blitz mode. This mode presents a challenge where players can select the boss they want to face, customizing the difficulty level from “Calamity” Level 1 to 10. Once players defeat the bosses, they can compete with others and enter a ranking system based on their speed in defeating the bosses. The top scores will be categorized by the various character classes, allowing players to showcase their skills and earn bragging rights.
NEW TOP-TIER GEAR PIECE AND ACCESSORIES
A highly anticipated addition in the expansion is the introduction of the “Dahn’s Gloves,” a powerful new gear set. The gloves come in two versions, one focused on damage reduction and the other on evasion. Adventurers can obtain these gloves by defeating the ferocious bosses, as they have a chance to drop as loot. Alternatively, players can craft the gloves using materials such as the “Flame of Hongik,” which can be acquired by defeating bosses or crafting “Crystallized Despairs” in Elvia Calpheon.
Another exciting accessory is the “Belt of Taebaek,” which activates new skills immediately upon equipping it. As players defeat bosses, there is a small yet certain probability of obtaining a special loot called the “Jewel of Illusion.” Additionally, the highly anticipated “Deboreka Earring” not only possesses its own inherent attributes but also plays a crucial role in activating the Deboreka 3-Set Effect.
TRADITIONAL KOREAN HOUSINGS AND CARRACK
Drawing inspiration from the last dynastic kingdom of Korea, Joseon, the Land of the Morning Light expansion allows adventurers to experience unique traditional Korean housings. Among these is the “Shimhyangje,” a spacious manor that provides ample room for decorations using new traditional furniture, adding a touch of authenticity to the game world.
Additionally, players will have the opportunity to construct a new ship, the Panokseon. Although its exterior design suggests a combat-focused vessel, the ship offers flexibility in performance and can accommodate a large crew.
NEW SUMMER SEASON

Adventurers can already create seasonal characters and undertake various challenges throughout the season.
