BOSTON UPRISING HIRE HEAD COACH SEUNG-HYUN “LORI” KIM

The Boston Uprising announced today the hiring of a new head coach, Seung-hyun “Lori” Kim. Lori, 24, most recently coached World Game Star Phoenix in the Korean region of Overwatch Contenders and brings experience leading both mixed and All-Korean rosters to tournament titles.

With Lori’s addition as the Uprising’s new head coach, Vytis “Mineral” Lasaitis will transition to a management position within the team.

Lori has coached in competitive Overwatch since late 2018 and has led teams in Korea, Europe and North America. Most recently, he coached Korean Contenders squad WGS Phoenix to a third-place finish in 2020 Season 1. This directly followed their first-place finish in the season’s Week 4 tournament, a 3-1 victory over RunAway.

In late 2019, Lori coached dominant North American team Bermuda (now Noble), which claimed three consecutive titles in just over two months at the NCS Major in Denver, Elo Hell’s online Trial of Champions, and the NCS Grand Finals in Huntington Beach, California.

“I was initially impressed with Lori for many reasons, including his success coaching rosters in multiple regions,” said Chris “HuK” Loranger, President of Gaming for the Uprising. “Lori and I have been getting to know each other for the past several weeks, during which time he has turned down several other OWL offers to join the Uprising. That alone speaks volumes to me about his determination to help this team succeed, and I am excited to welcome him as we continue building for the 2021 season.”

The Boston Uprising are currently constructing their roster for the 2021 Overwatch League season. The Uprising’s 2020 season concluded on September 4.

Lori’s coaching history:

  • 2020: WGS Phoenix (Overwatch Contenders KR)
  • 2020: Eternal Academy (Overwatch Contenders EU)
  • 2019-2020: Bermuda/Noble (Overwatch Contenders NA)
  • 2018-2019: Mono Frog (Overwatch Contenders Trials KR)
