The Boston Uprising announced today the signing of tank player Leyton “Punk” Gilchrist, a free agent who most recently played in Overwatch Contenders with Uprising Academy.
Punk, 18, holds dual citizenship in the United States and Australia. He primarily plays off-tank heroes like D.Va, Sigma and Zarya.
“We’re familiar with Punk from his time on Uprising Academy and have seen strong performances from him in the past,” said Chris “HuK” Loranger, President of Gaming for the Uprising. “Thanks to his dual citizenship, he’s able to step in right away for us during a time when the pandemic makes it difficult to sign international players and obtain visas. We’re happy to welcome Punk back to the Uprising family.”
Punk, 18, competed with Uprising Academy in the North American region of Overwatch Contenders in 2019. Prior to joining Uprising Academy, he played for the Sydney Drop Bears and Dark Sided in the Australian region of Contenders. Punk also competed in the 2018 and 2019 Overwatch World Cups, helping Team Australia advance through qualifiers and into the quarterfinal bracket in 2018.
The Uprising’s season will continue this weekend, as they play against the Los Angeles Gladiators at 7:00 PM on Saturday, May 16. The match will be streamed live on YouTube, with the Uprising hosting a virtual watch party at uprisinglive.overwatchleague.com.
