Boston Uprising to Play Live Overwatch League Matches in Boston for First Time

The Boston Uprising of the professional esports Overwatch League today announced its 2020 home venue will be the Citizens Bank Opera House, located in the heart of Boston. Overwatch League teams are competing live in their home markets for the first time this upcoming season, after all Overwatch teams competed exclusively at Los Angeles’ Blizzard Arena the first two years of the league. The Uprising is owned and operated by the Kraft family, one of the principal investors in the Overwatch League.

“We are thrilled to showcase the excitement and competitiveness of professional esports, and Overwatch, in particular, to fans of all ages in the Boston metropolitan area,” said Chris “HuK” Loranger, President of Gaming for the Uprising. “We thank the Citizens Bank Opera House for partnering with us to bring our inaugural homestand weekends to life for all to enjoy.”

Homestand weekends will feature professional Overwatch matches between the Boston Uprising and other Overwatch League teams, as well as complementary, fan-friendly activations and festivities. On April 25-26, the Boston Uprising will welcome the London Spitfire, Houston Outlaws, New York Excelsior, Florida Mayhem, Washington Justice and Philadelphia Fusion, while on June 27-28, the Boston Uprising with host the Excelsior, Spitfire, Paris Eternal and Toronto Defiant.

The Boston Uprising’s season opener kicks off in New York on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020, when the team competes against East Coast rival New York Excelsior at 3:00 p.m. EST. The Overwatch League is comprised of two conferences with two divisions in each conference.

Each team will play 28 total regular-season matches, which includes two matches against each conference opponent and one match against all non-conference teams. The regular season consists of a 26 week schedule, with all matches to be played over weekends and will include a break for All-Star Weekend and a midseason tournament between Weeks 12 and 13.
