While there are still numerous video games to launch on the PlayStation 4 console, Sony is preparing for the launch of its upcoming PS5 console later this year. The release of a new console won’t mark the end of the PS4’s life as it will still be supported for many years to come but it’s likely that future PlayStation exclusives will launch only with the PS5.
So, to celebrate the current-gen console, we thought we’d compile a shortlist of our three best PS4 exclusives. Take a look below and see if you agree:
Horizon Zero Dawn
Horizon Zero Dawn is one of Sony’s best-selling PlayStation games. Developed by Guerilla Games, the game follows Aloy, a hunter in a post-apocalyptic future world overrun with machines who sets out to discover her past and what happened to the world.
The game, which launched in 2017, features one of PlayStation’s most unique stories as well as memorable characters, fun bow, and gadget mechanics, and award-winning voice acting. The base game’s dialogue and character models were heavily criticized but addressed in the game’s Frozen Wilds DLC which improved on these issues substantially.
Although it hasn’t been confirmed, Guerilla Games is thought to be hard at work on a sequel which may release for the PS5. So it’s never too late to give Horizon Zero Dawn a try!
Marvel’s Spider-Man
Marvel’s Spider-Man is an adaptation of Marvel’s web-slinging superhero of the same name. The game, which was released in 2018 by Insomniac Games, is inspired by the Spider-Man comics but is set in its own universe.
The game follows an older, more experienced Peter Parker who faces trouble when a new villain known as Mister Negative threatens the city of New York as he attempts to wrestle control of the city’s criminal underworld and threatens to release a virus that could kill thousands.
Players are given free-roam of New York City with the ability to swing, zip, crawl, and take the subway to travel the metropolitan jungle. The action game features web-gadgets, dozens of unlockable Spider-Man comic suits, leading it to become the fastest-selling superhero game of 2018 and the second best-selling PS4 game to date.
The story of Spider-Man has been used as a blueprint for games across all sorts of consoles and genres. Playtech, one of the world’s largest developers of casino games, has even turned the story of Peter Parker into an online slot with the name of Spider-Man: Attack of The Goblin. It immediately became a huge success across casino sites worldwide.
Bloodborne
Bloodborne is a horror-action RPG set in the fictional, gothic, and Victorian-inspired city of Yharnam whose residents have become infected with a disease that transforms them into blood-addled beasts.
The game, developed by FromSoftware, features a customizable protagonist who is tasked with unraveling the mystery of Yharnam and its disease. Players explore the city of Yharnam and its surrounding areas throughout the game, take on monstrous enemies, and face tough bosses which will have you throwing your controller across the room.
Bloodborne received critical acclaim for its design, gameplay, atmosphere, sound, plot, and linear but interconnected world. It’s now regarded as one of the best video games of all time and for good reason. It’s well worth a try if you can handle the difficulty.

Other notable exclusives that would have appeared in the list if longer include 2018’s God Of War, 2016’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, 2014’s The Last Of Us Remastered, as well as 2019’s underrated Days Gone
There are countless more games to come out for the console, including the upcoming The Last Of Us Part 2 and Ghost Of Tsushima, both of which already looks to be incredible. With the PS5 console also coming up, there’s plenty to celebrate and keep you busy.
