City-building tribal simulator now feature-complete after a successful stint in alpha with a string of game-refining updates.

Outerdawn announced today that Goblins of Elderstone is now in beta, a major milestone toward launch for the Early Access city-building tribal simulator. This move into beta comes with a raft of updates, Story Path Bonuses, Beautification Buildings, and Burrows.

Burrows open up a whole new dimension when it comes to building your city, offering you the opportunity to help your goblins move more efficiently and optimise resource collection for your tribe. With this new special building, your goblins can tunnel under your city and swaths of land to safely harvest or scavenge resources far away from the village. Simply build one Burrow on one side of the map and then build another at the other end and your goblins will be moving large distances in no time.

This feature-complete beta also offers players more control of the aesthetics of their goblin village with the addition of Beautification Buildings. These are small structures and decorations that allow players to visually customise the appearance of their town. Just like standard buildings, you simply need to collect the required resources and then set your goblins to work building them. A new fog system has also been added making certain times of day in different seasons more visually interesting.

Goblins of Elderstone is a unique take on the city-building genre with a goblin-fuelled survival approach where nurturing tribal dynamics is key. Your emphasis is not only on buildings and commerce in your town, but on crafting the culture of its inhabitants and making sure they are happy. Treat your goblins well and they will (mostly) listen to you. Fail to meet their needs and expect them to riot, steal and kill each other.

In addition to gathering resources and crafting structures, you must engage a layer of diplomacy as you navigate relationships with neighboring tribes, intrepid explorers, bandits, heroes and even gods. Your wits and skill at bartering/bribery negotiations, as well as the occasional pillaging, will help you transform Elderstone from a small village into an empire to be reckoned with.
