Today, developer sqr3lab is shouting over the sounds of crashing waves to announce that subROV: Underwater Discoveries, the deep-sea exploration simulation game, is launching into Steam Early Access on December 2nd, 2022. Soon, players will be able to simulate submarine Remotely-Operated Vehicle (ROV) dives previously completed by real oceanographic institutions, and discover the sights and sounds of Earth’s oceans like never before.
A brand new look at subROV: Underwater Discoveries showcases much of the sea life players will get to survey on their dives, including various species of whales, fish, and corals (some brought to a video game for the first time ever), backed by a beautiful piano arrangement composed by the developer and sound designer José Luis González Castro, formerly of Frontier Developments (Elite Dangerous).
In subROV: Underwater Discoveries, players chart unknown regions, sample hydrothermal vents, find shipwrecks, study aquatic species ranging from fish to coral, and more! Experienced through the mysterious depths of the ocean, the game blends realism with intuitive controls to create a truly one-of-a-kind approachable sub-simulation. With support from the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences and the Schmidt Ocean Institute, and with partial funding from a National Science Foundation BIO-OCE grant, players will embark on dives based on real oceanographic expeditions, and experience underwater exploration in a way few people have before.
