Devin Murphy, Former Riot Games Executive, Joins MOGO as Director of Strategic Development

Mobile Global Esports Inc., the leading mobile esports and social platform company, has announced the appointment of Devin Murphy as Director of Strategic Development. Murphy, previously the head of Riot Games North American Esports Events, brings his extensive experience and expertise to MOGO as the company expands its presence in India.

A Focus on Esports Growth and Talent Development

Devin Murphy’s career in esports has revolved around two essential areas for the long-term success of the industry: facilitating tournament and event access in underserved regions and nurturing the “path to pro” pipeline for aspiring esports professionals. His new role at MOGO allows him to combine these elements within the Indian market, where he aims to build a platform that supports the next generation of pro gamers, producers, broadcasters, artists, influencers, and league managers.

Speaking about his new position, Murphy shared his vision, stating, “Joining MOGO offers me the ability to couple these two elements that are inherent to esports sustainability, focus them in the Indian market, and help build the platform for the next generation of pro gamers… The skills I learned in university helped prepare me for the work I later found myself performing: expanding the scope and reach of esports in North America and abroad.”

Building a Comprehensive University Tournament Infrastructure in India

MOGO CEO Dave Pross expressed his excitement about collaborating with Devin Murphy, highlighting their shared goal of establishing best practices in the Indian university esports field and providing exceptional opportunities and events for gamers and sponsors. Murphy’s extensive skill set and experience will play a crucial role in shaping MOGO’s tournament calendar and setting the stage for upcoming summer series and the Indian National Championship series.

Impressive Track Record in Esports

Devin Murphy’s tenure at Riot Games from 2015 to 2022 coincided with the company’s most significant growth and engagement in the esports industry. He played a pivotal role in developing Riot’s North American League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) strategy and road map from 2018 through 2023, while also managing a substantial annual event budget of $10 million.

During his time at Riot, Murphy pioneered an event-incentive funding approach and successfully brokered a deal with Rocket Mortgage and the Detroit Sports Commission to bring the LCS Summer Finals to Detroit. This event had a substantial economic impact valued at $5.44 million. He also represented Riot Games at sports and travel summits, forging collaborations with convention and visitors bureaus, travel providers, hoteliers, and arenas to elevate Riot Esports.

Adapting and Innovating Through Challenging Times

Murphy’s contribution to the esports landscape extends beyond traditional event planning. He played a key role in adapting Riot Games’ North American strategy to navigate the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. His ability to redefine live events in the face of adversity showcases his versatility and forward-thinking approach.

A Solid Foundation and Academic Background

Devin Murphy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater production from the Eugene Lang College of New School University. This educational foundation, combined with his hands-on experience in the esports industry, has equipped him with a well-rounded skill set and a nuanced understanding of the intersection between creativity, technology, and entertainment.

With the addition of Devin Murphy to its team, MOGO strengthens its position in the Indian esports market and solidifies its commitment to fostering growth, talent development, and innovation. As MOGO continues to expand its mobile esports and social platform, Murphy’s expertise and strategic guidance will play a crucial role in shaping the company’s future endeavors in India and beyond.
