E3 Excitement

Every year when E3 rolls around there seems to be more game titles than one person can follow. There are many games I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on to try out, but there are a few that I’m thrilled about. Some are new titles with a new spin on gaming, while some are a return to classic titles brought into a more modern age of gaming, all adding up to a giant ball of excitement.

The first game on my list is also the farthest out from the norm of what I usually enjoy. Like many of the announcements at E3 not a lot is known about Sea of Solitude. We know it follows Kay, a very lonely girl, so lonely in fact that she has turned into a monster. You read correctly, she turns into a monster because she is so alone. This is a game that is more focused on the story and exploring the world in which it takes place. What is most interesting to me is the developers of this game are equally interested in exploring what loneliness means as much as making a compelling game. We’ve all felt lonely before. This game delves into what that means, and maybe if we are lucky we can find some answers for ourselves, while experiencing Kay’s journey through her solitude. If there is one thing I’m a sucker for, it’s for exploring human behavior and why we feel the way we do. This game does just that, and I can’t wait.

Next up is a game that doesn’t follow the more normal gaming conventions. What can I say? I like when game developers take some risks on something that is out of the ordinary. The Quiet Man is a single player game that reminds me a lot of the Max Payne franchise. This game focuses on giving the player a cinematic experience, driven by the story and with a focus on realistic CG. This game promises lots of action, and a smooth experience shifting between gameplay and cinematics. There is a lot to get excited about with this game. The only thing that really concerns me though, is that it is also promises to be a short experience, short enough to finish in one sitting. This doesn’t necessarily mean the game will be less enjoyable, what it does mean is that it may not have longevity in its experience. Let’s just hope that it leaves us wanting more and not disappointed there isn’t more to do in the game.

Last but not least, a game I’m looking forward to with great excitement. Fallout 76 is the next title in the Fallout franchise that takes a look back. Being a prequel to the series, this game tells the story of people just coming out of their fallout shelters to start rebuilding the world after nuclear devastation. I have to admit that I’ve never played a Fallout game before. Its single player only experience has always kept me away. Although, I’ve always been enamored by the premise of the franchise. Something about the dystopian nuclear wasteland the story takes place in is compelling. What makes me so excited about this title though is the addition of multiplayer. I would love to see some open world aspects to this game, and a concept similar to how GTA V Online handles their multiplayer would be amazing. Just imagine walking around the mountains of West Virginia, where the story takes place, and randomly running into another survivor. Will they be friend or foe? Who knows, that’s the exciting part. This is the one feature they could add to the game that would ensure that I picked it up. Even if the multiplayer is more of a co-op experience, it is a welcome addition to this game and one that has me looking forward to the release.

There are many titles and announcements coming out of E3, there always is, too much to properly track. As always though the cream rises to the top. While I have mentioned three of the announcements I’m most excited about, there are many more titles that have got my fingers itching for some keyboard time. One thing is certain, there are a lot of goodies to keep us busy for quite a while.

Saying I’m passionate about gaming might be an understatement. I enjoy games that I can really lose myself in that has a full and robust world that I can explore. My favorites tend to be MMO’s with World of Warcraft taking the lead. That’s not to say I don’t enjoy a good open world game like Minecraft to just explore and do whatever tickles my fancy at the time. You can find me on twitter or on the occasional twitch stream.
