When Elden Ring announced in 2019, nothing happened for two years, and it seemed like the project was dead. But then, suddenly, a trailer was released in June 2021, stating that the game is to release in January of 2022. The game is an exciting collaboration between George R. R. Martin (author of the books on Game of Thrones), Hidetaka Mayazaki, FromSoftware, and Bandai Namco Entertainment.

A powerful item called the Elden Ring is fragmented, and its power got reduced. Who or what can bring order?
The Tarnished were once inhabitants of these land, but in the end, they got expelled. Now, an outcast returns, hoping to fulfill the legend of his people and return the Lands Between to rightful owners. But in his way stand Demigods and Lords made stronger by shards of the Lands Between.
If this sounds very confusing, that’s because it is. Nothing got revealed except many buzzwords, but you can quickly get the picture of what the game is about with it. Once there was a peaceful kingdom full of mythical beings. Now it lies in war and ruins, and it is your job to defeat the dark monsters and restore order.
What to Expect From the Gameplay?
In short, a lot of customization and world exploration. “Traverse the breathtaking world on foot or horseback, alone or online with other players, and fully immerse yourself in the grassy plains, suffocating swamps, spiralling mountains… on a scale never before seen”, says the page of the game.
In this refined action RPG, you are free to create your character and define your playstyle. Experiment with different kinds of weapons, magical abilities, travel the world and develop new skills. There are many other options when it comes to combat and map exploration.
Dark Souls Meets George Martin
The game looks eerily similar to other FromSoftware Games like Dark Souls. That’s a good thing. But, of course, it’s located in a different world, created by none other than George Martin, and we expect it to be an interesting one. It seems a lot of work is going into making an enormous map that players can explore for hours. The developers also insist the game offers players a chance to shape Lands Between with their in-game choices. With so little known about the actual story, we hope to see more about it in the next trailer.
