I must admit just from a PC hardware RGB lighting gluten standpoint I have always wanted one of these. Even if it added no actual performance benefit, they still make your battle station look LIT… literally. The Cryogen supports laptops up to 17 inches but also fit well with PlayStation or Xbox consoles. ENHANCE claims its 5 ultra-quiet fans will keep your PC from overheating and provide a critical performance boost when it counts, priced at $34.99.
ENHANCE is a subsidiary brand of Accessory Power designed to appeal to gamers that want to get the edge on their competition. At a low price point like this, you might be expecting some poor quality but overall, it’s well-built and designed. ENHANCE also extends a 3-year manufacture warranty on all their gaming products to boost your confidence. In the worst-case scenario, if you are replacing the cooling pad every 3 years at $34.99, you are not doing so badly. The fans are red, green, or blue lit as of now you will have to buy the color you want; they are not adjustable aside from dimming.
While the base of the cooling pad is plastic the top surface that touches your laptop is meshed metal allowing for a cooler surface. Although lightweight it feels solid in your hands. It has 2 USB ports however one is used to power the device. Underneath is a stand system that has 7 adjustable angles all the way to flat, I found this is great for cable management. Inside the case, you will find two 130mm and three 70mm fans with adjustable speeds. Around the outside, you will see colored clear plastic which at first glance get you pumped because you think they will light up, but they do not. This is a big-time WHOOPS! Even in pitch black the inner lights are not powerful enough to light the edges. Essentially the lighting is nonexistent on this product.
I think the way we should look at it is this product that is meant to cool our laptop not be a light show. Lol, who are we kidding? PC Gamers need more lights. If you plug the Cryogen in and hold your hand over the top of the fans you will notice it feels genuinely cold. A big victory for the “lap” laptop users, when leaning back on the bed or couch the Cryogen will keep 100% of the heat off your legs. In my opinion, this makes the product well worth the cost. We did however do some extensive testing on a gaming laptop with the fans at 100%. We went hard on some Assassins Creed Valhalla and kept tabs on the GPU and CPU temperatures using the Core Temp and Task Manager software. We found that the Cryogen did keep the laptop significantly cooler. Here are the results.
Average temperature with the fans off:
CPU
- Core #0 75°C
- Core #1 74°C
- Core #2 74°C
- Core #3 73°C
- Core #4 72°C
- Core #5 72°C
GPU
- 72°C
Average temperature with the fans on:
CPU
- Core #0 64°C
- Core #1 61°C
- Core #2 63°C
- Core #3 61°C
- Core #4 64°C
- Core #5 70°C
GPU
- 54°C
I was incredibly surprised by the results! In my mind, this is huge and makes the Cryogen well worth the purchase. Even with the fan speed at 100% it came nowhere near overpowering the sound of the laptop fans. I would like to see a pro version with more powerful fans and visible RGB lighting on the exterior priced around $59.99. A step up from that? Fans adjustable from the BIOS and RGB lighting compatible with software like ICUE. As for now if you’re looking to extend the life of your laptop without breaking your bank get one of these!
