Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth – A Story Retold

2022 was a year full of surprises for Final Fantasy fans. Final Fantasy 14 Online got a new expansion, Stranger of Paradise was released, many players finally got their hands on a PlayStation 5 and finally got the opportunity to play Yuffie’s episode and last but not least, Square announced the estimated release dates for Final Fantasy 16, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and for other upcoming FF contents. Even though everyone is patiently waiting for FF16, the highlight of all releases is, of course, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth; the next step of the remake, which gives players the ability to explore a much bigger area of Gaia. This time, the developers seem to have tried changing a lot more in the story, rewriting a few bits in comparison to the original.

What Did Viewers Learn After Watching the Event?

To celebrate its many successful years, Square held a celebration event, which was used as a marketing campaign for all its upcoming products. The spotlight was focused on the Final Fantasy content and players got to see everything that is scheduled for release during the next two years. As mentioned above, one thing that many people realized is that Final Fantasy 7 is coming with lots of changes.

Is it Wise to Change the Game?

Changing a story is not always the best choice, especially when one talks about legacy gaming titles. Most gaming companies try to avoid changing things that have brought them success, regardless if it is a platinum role-playing game or a game of chance such as Gladiator Jackpot, which one can play at an online casino. The hardcore fans of specific games will have a hard time accepting too many changes to the storyline or to the gameplay of the title they love and this can lead to them having a negative opinion about the “new and improved” version. However, the only way to bring a 25-year-old game up to the standards of 9th-generation gaming, is to adjust certain areas of the game and this can mean changing the story and the mechanics.

How much Did the Trailers Reveal?

Just like with every other 90-second trailer, viewers got a glimpse of all that is to come with the release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The gameplay mechanics seem to be a little bit better than the mechanics of the first game, but those who hoped for an open-world approach will probably be disappointed. On the other hand, players will enjoy the fact that Rebirth will have a lot more when it comes to Sephiroth.

One Year to Go

The one thing on the mind of every Final Fantasy fan is what to do until the release of the next chapter in the story. Players already know that part 2 is coming next winter and that after part 2, the story will conclude with a third installment. While this means that finishing playing the remake will require 3 to 4 years of waiting, it is worth mentioning that part 2 of the game will allow gamers to play the most important part of the story. Another positive thing is that the FF library will be enriched with other major contents such as Crisis Core and, most importantly Final Fantasy 16.
