Gun Interactive, the multimedia development firm behind the upcoming asymmetrical horror adaptation of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, has released a behind-the-scenes featurette showcasing the creative process, challenges, and advantages of developing a video game based on the renowned horror franchise. The video includes interviews with eight team members from both Gun Interactive and co-developer Sumo Nottingham, offering insights into the design and development philosophies that shaped the game.

The featurette delves into the process of working with a pivotal piece of film history and introducing new characters into the established narrative. The video highlights the meticulous attention to detail, such as digitally scanning every scratch on an authentic 1970s chainsaw and combing through the journals of original screenwriter Kim Henkel to revive the drifter character, Sissy.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game is set in the months leading up to the events of the original 1974 film, featuring authentic recreations of the locations, characters, and imagery from the movie. Players take on the roles of either the Victims or members of the Slaughter Family—including the infamous Leatherface—in a tense 3v4 cat-and-mouse game. Both the Victims and the Slaughter Family must use their unique abilities to succeed, with the former relying on stealth and intelligence to escape, while the latter employs brutal and deadly attacks to hunt down their prey.

The behind-the-scenes video is released ahead of the technical playtest for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, scheduled for May 25th. Fans can stay updated on the technical test by adding the game to their Steam wishlists and following the game’s social media channels (Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook). Further details and instructions for the test will be shared in the coming weeks.

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre game is set to launch on August 18th, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5 (PS5) & PlayStation 4 (PS4), Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, and will be available on Game Pass for Xbox and PC.

Platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One
