Latest Esports News Stories for December 2020

Today, we have a roundup report covering the latest news reports in the world of esports (AKA, competitive video gaming). As esports gain traction, esports betting is also seeing more action on the side.

You can check out some pointers to keep in mind if you are choosing between bookmakers that support esports betting. Without further ado, let’s get to it!

Esports gain more popularity in Africa, especially Kenya

Since South Africa regulated online betting with the National Gambling Amendment Act in 2008, many African countries have followed suit with different gambling laws and commissions. EuropeanGaming.eu projects the continent will see a neat upsurge in the gaming industry. We are talking about a whopping 12% increase from 2020 to 2025.

The majority of this growth goes to South Africa, Egypt, and now Kenya is coming into play with two esports athletes, Queen Arrow and the Beast. The former is a 22-year-old law student named Sylvia Gathoni, the first of her kind in Kenya.

Ranked 13th in the country, the Tekken 7 gamer hopes to own a fair share of this male-dominated market. She’s pushing for both sexism and more solid regulations to properly regulate gaming in Kenya. The other East African is Brian “Beast” Diang’a, a YouTube-trained player famous for winning several Mortal Kombat tournaments.

However, competitive video gaming throughout the continent still faces some challenges. Factors like slow (and/or costly) Internet services and hard-to-get (and expensive) gaming equipment.

The League of Legends’ spinoff shows similar gameplay in the latest trailer

Ruined King, a spinoff of the globally-famous League of Legends game to be published by Riot Forge, was announced around this time last year. The game is being designed by Airship Syndicate and set for release in early 2021. Before you can purchase it on the Epic Games Store, you can view the gameplay with the latest trailer released at The Game Awards yesternight.

The way that Ruined King is set up, you will find characters, combat mechanism, and isometric graphics similar to those of the League of Legends. You can join forces with characters like Illaoi, Miss Fortune, Pyke, Braum, Ahri, and Yasuo to fight shared opponents.

The narrative has not developed beyond that but there are some other points the trailer revealed. Matches will take place in segments of their own, utilizing a shoulder-to-shoulder gameplay.

Dota 2 tournament EPIC League partners with Paco Rabanne

After the OMEGA League contest was successfully held in conjunction with key Dota 2 teams and WePlay Esports, Epic Esports Events expect even more success at the coming EPIC League tournament.

The enfant terrible Paco Rabanne is well known in the sphere of fashion and perfume. Thanks to his recent partnership with EEE’s latest event, he is hoping to bring that success to esports and sports betting as well.

The indie tournament has its finals between Dec 8 and Dec 13. And during this timeframe, there will be sponsorships throughout the broadcast pushing the Invictus perfume line for men.

Aside from ESForce Holding (which owns Epic Esports Events), other brands involved in the collaboration include Parimatch, Bridge A[gency], Haval, and Starcom.

EPIC League could not have come at a better time, as one of the year’s biggest esports events—Dota 2 International—was canceled in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
