Leyline Empowers Gamers to Help Change the Real World — But How Does It Work?

Today Leyline — the transformative nonprofit platform aiming to revolutionize how gaming communities connect to charitable causes that help combat the world’s most pressing issues — has shared a new “FAQ” video. The new video breaks down how the platform works and why security and transparency are the golden rules for the organization.

Leyline incentivizes anyone with a computer or mobile device to contribute to the causes they care about while earning rewards — digital items, gift cards, game codes, and more — by donating spare processing power to researching things like a cure for COVID-19 and fighting climate change. The Leyline Marketplace isn’t limited to digital devices, however; the program supports boots-on-the-ground action and volunteering at the local level as well, allowing participants to earn points and items that are tied to a user’s account and secured in a dedicated blockchain-based wallet.

But how does Leyline ensure that its platform is safe? For starters, they’re partnered with the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing (BOINC), which was created in 2002 as a way to pool CPU resources to crunch major simulations. It’s basically a digital think tank that connects users together for the greater good, and it’s the perfect partner to house Leyline. Every project on Leyline goes through a rigorous audititing and whitelisting process to ensure security so that people can do their part in changing the world without worrying about their safety and security.

One of the founding principles of Leyline is transparency, and that holds true in its technology as well. Leyline utilizes a fully transparent open-source platform that has proven to be stable and safe for over a decade, with hundreds of thousands of users. Leyline and all approved projects are General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) compliant. That means users’ computers and data are completely secure. In order to showcase their dedication to full transparency, Leyline has made public their first all-hands meeting where the team discusses everything from individual empowerment and creative potential to market planning and how to scale an organization.

Leyline is a nonprofit organization started by former Blizzard Entertainment manager Jeremy Dela Rosa that is dedicated to solving the world’s biggest problems.  Participants choose their causes from a growing number of focus areas, ranging from supporting research for COVID-19 to combating climate change, or even volunteering at the local level. For each contribution made — whether donating idle processing power, volunteering time, giving blood, or something else — participants earn points in the Leyline Marketplace. These points can be exchanged for various digital gifts and items. Points and items are tied to a user’s account and secured in a dedicated blockchain-based wallet, accessible only by that user.
