Independent game developer Mommy’s Best Games (MBG) has made an exciting announcement, revealing their acquisition of the entire back catalog of classic video game intellectual property from arcade developer and manufacturer Occidental Designs (OD). As part of this agreement, MBG will be bringing the obscure cult classic arcade racer, “Bumpy Grumpy,” back to life.

Originally released by Occidental Designs in 1983, “Bumpy Grumpy” quickly garnered a dedicated following due to its addictive gameplay and unique mechanics. Now, MBG is set to introduce this beloved arcade racer to a whole new generation of players. The president of Mommy’s Best Games, Nathan Fouts, expressed his personal connection to the game, stating, “I was hooked ever since I played Bumpy Grumpy in a smoky Pizza Hut in St Louis, on a school field trip to see the Arch. The controls were perfect, the speed intense, and the collision didn’t feel cheap like other games at the time. I knew we had to bring it back.”

The initial release of Bumpy Grumpy will be on PC, with plans to expand to other consoles to be announced at a later date. PC gamers can already add the game to their wishlist on Steam, eagerly anticipating its arrival.

Bumpy Grumpy, true to its arcade roots, boasts a variety of key features that capture the essence of classic arcade racing. Players can expect arcade-perfect controls that offer precise handling and responsiveness. They will also have to navigate through a cast of wacky drivers, including characters like Tail Gator, Speed Demon, and Sundae Driver. To gain an edge, power-ups such as the Chain Mace, Spike Plow, and Turbo Gas can be collected, providing thrilling opportunities to outmaneuver opponents.

Exploring the game’s 12 unique areas will present players with a host of crazy enemy drivers, each with their distinct personality and driving style. Additionally, “Bumpy Grumpy” offers three different endings, adding a layer of intrigue and replayability to the gameplay. Players can unlock the best ending by locating their lost papers scattered throughout the game.

Competitive players will be pleased to know that Bumpy Grumpy features global leaderboards, allowing them to compete for high scores and showcase their skills to the online community. The game also includes optional widescreen mode for a more modernized experience, while retaining the nostalgic charm of the original arcade visuals. Furthermore, “Bumpy Grumpy” has been designed with arcade enthusiasts in mind, as it comes MAME-ready with controls already mapped, making it a perfect addition to any arcade cabinet.

To maintain the authenticity of the original arcade experience, Mommy’s Best Games has preserved the game’s original bezel, marquee, and side cabinet artwork. However, they have also introduced modern accessibility options, allowing players to adjust gameplay speed, lives, and scoring to tailor the experience to their preferences. Fans of classic arcade aesthetics will be pleased to find an optional CRT effect that faithfully replicates the visual display of old-school arcade cabinets.

With the revival of “Bumpy Grumpy,” Mommy’s Best Games is set to reignite the passion of nostalgic gamers and introduce a new generation to the thrilling world of classic arcade racing. Stay tuned for the release of this long-awaited title, and get ready to embrace the high-speed action and competitive challenges of “Bumpy Grumpy.”
