Meet the Underdogs Team BTK – Mobile Legends: Bang Bang World Championship

How does a team come into the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) World Championship with no coach, manager, analyst, or sponsors and dominate the competition. This is the case for the upstart team BTK, which surprised several teams at the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) World Championship with upset victories.

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang tournament is already in its third iteration and features sixteen international teams competing for a total prize pool of USD 800,000 over two action-packed weeks.

The talented team consists of only 20 and below players who still managed to pull off huge upsets against MPL-regions and land themselves in the top 3 of the M3 tournament.

Team History

The team members – MobaZane, Victor, FwydChickn, SHARK, and ZIA – saw each other for the first time at the airport; before departing for the M3 World Championships. The members have been together as a squad for the last two years, and their team chemistry was off the charts in their match-up against MPL champions Blacklist International (Philippines) and SeeYouSoon (Cambodia).

The team also cleanly swept through the competition in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang North America Community Cup and the NA Community Tournament, focusing on early-game meta victories. MobaZane was also a former pro-player and is one of the best marksmen in the North-America region. At one point, he was competing with pro-player Duckeyy to become one of the top global Sabers. The rest of the team members have also been streamers for some time.

The dark horses of North America caused a massive upset against Blacklist International, as many were expecting the MPL-PH giants to win the match. In a post-match interview, MobaZane stated that “And I don’t think they (Blacklist International) took us as seriously as they should have.”

Up to 2% felt that BTK would win in that match, and they were only considered 4th in the power rankings for Group C by Dot Esports. The team has certainly made a statement in the M3 World Championships with their high technical skill level. What’s more – for some of the team members, this was the first international tournament that they’ve participated in, surpassing expectations to be the top 3 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang professional teams. Despite the hurdles faced, such as time zone differences and travel, they have proven themselves to be one of the best performing teams and are the true underdogs to keep an eye on!
