To break it down, let’s look at what you’re getting into with this collection by reviewing at each game.

Mega Man Zero — One hundred and two years have passed since Zero’s last encounter with the viral entity known as Sigma. He now awakens in a future where the government of Neo Arcadia, fearing yet another Reploid uprising, embarks on a campaign to rid the world of all such life forms. Taking shelter in the ruins of the old city, a female scientist named Ciel and a handful of Reploids have managed to awaken Zero, their one and only hope for survival. As opposed to previous incarnations in the series, players are not able to select from a wide variety of stages, instead, missions are assigned by the resistance leader Ciel, each possessing a specific priority level. Between stages, Zero can wander the halls of Ciel’s base, talking to people as he does so.

Mega Man Zero 2Mega Man Zero 2 continues Capcom’s Mega Man spin-off series with new two-player support and a number of additional features. Players once again control the enigmatic Zero, first introduced in Mega Man X3, who comes to the defense of fellow robots (known as reploids) attacked by the ruthless Neo Arcadia police force. Zero can slash foes with his trademark Beam Sabre, blast enemies from afar using his Buster weapon, and perform dashes, jumps, and wall kicks to overcome obstacles or hazards placed in his path.

Mega Man Zero 3 — Continuing the Mega Man Zero saga, this third installment allows players to customize their character with special ability chips, thus allowing Zero to rise to the challenges and trials that beset him in his quest to defeat the evil Omega in Arcadia. Also exclusive to Mega Man Zero 3 is the recoil rod weapon and special double-jump ability. Explore hidden maps and areas to collect special parts during gameplay and create ability chips for Zero. Also give enemies a taste of their own medicine, as in previous Mega Man games, by collecting their weapons and turning them back on them.

Mega Man Zero 4 — The fourth edition in the Mega Man Zero sub-series finds the young hero continuing his efforts to forge peace between the humans and the reploids in the futuristic world of Neo Arcadia. As he fights his way past the evil Dr Weil’s dangerous minions, Zero can salvage equipment from defeated enemies and combine these parts to make his own custom weaponry. The game features a weather system, which can be altered by the player to raise or lower the game’s difficulty. In all, the hero will face 40 different enemy types on 16 side-scrolling stages, each with a challenging, themed boss at the end.

Mega Man ZXMega Man ZX continues the incredible Mega Man X saga! It’s been years since the wars between humans and Reploids. They now coexist peacefully, with humans using new Biometal technology to give them Reploid-like powers and Reploids giving up their immortality. When a mysterious group attacks three couriers delivering Model X and Model Z Biometals, they respond by fusing themselves with the Biometals, creating Model ZX! With powerful abilities at their disposal, they must discover who their enemies are and what they are after.

Mega Man ZX Advent — The second game in the Mega Man ZX series, Mega Man ZX Advent offers the same kind of plot and character duality as its predecessor but with an English voice cast and a whole new gang of enemy Mega Men to fight. The two protagonists, a young human girl named Ashe and a young Reploid boy named Grey, discover the powers of the Biometal model A and use it to help end the chaos caused by an ongoing battle between humans and robots. Even though the two characters share the same adventures, their stories are different and players must use both Grey and Ashe to unlock the full plot.

Now, only one question remains … will a Mega Man Legends Collection or Battle Network Collection launch next? Who knows, but all kidding aside, Mega Man Zero / ZX Legacy Collection releases for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on January 21, 2020.
