Most Evolved Game Franchise of all Time: How Lara Croft changed the game industry

When Tomb Raider was unloaded onto the world stage towards the end of 1996 by Eidos
Interactive, they probably did not know what they had just created. The introduction to Lara
Croft, a sexy archaeologist with exceptional intellect and fast combat skills was the
beginning of arguably the best game franchise ever. Sporting her tank top, calf-high boots
and brown shorts, the game’s heroine departed on engaging adventures across the globe
in unusual and exotic locations. Her narrative was never short of action and always fun for
gamers.

Over the last two decades and then some, Lara Croft’s appearance may have altered, and
her voice may have changed along with changing actors, but the intrigue of her quests and
the adventurous nature of Tomb Raider remains the same and just as much of a gaming
spectacle. At the time of writing, there are 19 releases of Tomb Raider on the shelves and
these games have been applicable to different devices from handheld smartphones to
games consoles and PCs. Tomb Raider was one of the first game to show that one game
can be adapted across platforms and opened the door for other games to follow.
The current owners of the rights to Tomb Raider are Square Enix . They will be aware that
all fans of the Tomb Raider franchise will be crossing their fingers and toes hoping for
another release. So, will that happen and what’s in store for Lara Croft?

Lara Croft Made Way for More Film Adaptations

Those of us who spend any time at Royal Vegas CA or any other leading online casino
operators can easily spot fun slot machines that have been adapted from other forms of
entertainment such as films and music. Well, Tomb Raider has had the same effect on
other mediums of entertainment, proving its pull power as a franchise.
It is one of the most successful games at doing this and has even been adapted into three
films that has significant success at the box office with Angelina Jolie filling those calf-high
boots on two occasions. This move paved the way for other successful franchise to do the
same and explore the potential of the gaming characters in new formats.

Lara Croft is Leading New Trends

One of the latest Tomb Raider titles, Tomb Raider: Blood Ties, is available to play with
virtual reality technology, highlighting the franchise’s ability to flex its muscle with the latest
gaming technology advancements. It may have been a game introduced in the mid-90s
but the franchise can certainly keep up with the newest trends and developments.
It could be argued then that Tom Raider has not just been a game that the rest of the
industry has looked up to, as it continues to lead the pack and evolves as a result of
changes in gaming. For these reasons, Lara Croft has not just changed the industry – but
is changing the industry.
