There’s been a lot of talk lately regarding Nintendo’s Joy-Con issue as numerous players have been facing a “drifting” problem while gaming. This issue, known as the Joy-Con Drift, would have players’ analog sticks on the Joy-Con controllers randomly move (causing a character to walk, for example). A lot of players have reported this issue over the last few months, and this issue has been happening for so long and have been so bad that a class action lawsuit was filed.
A recent report by Vice has discovered that customers will no longer charge gamers seeking Joy-Con repairs and will refund those who have already paid.
“Customers will no longer be requested to provide proof of purchase for Joy-Con repairs,” the internal customer service details say. “Additionally it is not necessary to confirm warranty status. If a customer requests a refund for a previously paid Joy-Con repair […] confirm the prior repair and then issue a refund.”
The customer support representatives at Nintendo have been advised to guide customers that claim to have the “Joy-Con Drift” through steps of troubleshooting. If that does not solve the issue, the customer support rep will then have to issue a repair at no charge. Nintendo is also no longer in need of proof of purchase for the Joy-Cons with issues or any proof of warranty.

“At Nintendo, we take great pride in creating quality products and we are continuously making improvements to them. We are aware of recent reports that some Joy-Con controllers are not responding correctly. We want our consumers to have fun with Nintendo Switch, and if anything falls short of this goal we always encourage them to visit http://support.nintendo.com so we can help.”
I have actually seen this “drifting” issue happen firsthand as my wife has shown me it was happening to our family’s Switch. Her character would often slowly walk in a certain direction without any prompt or input of the Joy-Con. Luckily, I did have another set of Joy-Cons to use and plugged those bad boys in, and there have been no issues as of yet … Thanks to a lot of complaining customers and this report, I have the option to send in my old Joy-Cons to have it fixed.
