Phil Elliott Becomes CEO of Modern Wolf Indie Publishing Label

Modern Wolf, the indie games publishing label owned by Paul Wedgwood’s Supernova Capital, announced today that publishing veteran Phil Elliott has been named the company’s new CEO, and will start in March.

Elliott joins Modern Wolf as CEO following a 10-year stint at Square Enix, most notably as the Director of the publisher’s indie publishing arm, Square Enix Collective (PowerWash Simulator, Circuit Superstars, The Turing Test).

Elliott started out working in radio and transitioned into journalism while at BBC Radio 5Live. From there a step into specialist media followed, with GameSpot UK and GamesIndustry.biz, before moving to Square Enix in 2011 as Head of Community. He founded indie publishing label Square Enix Collective a couple of years later and helped build it into a thriving part of the wider business, before moving on to lead Modern Wolf.

Elliott’s appointment to CEO of Modern Wolf comes at an exciting and pivotal time for the company. Fresh off the back of commercial hit ZERO Sievert, which has generated over $3 million in revenue since its early access release just four months ago (November 2022), Elliott will look to grow the Modern Wolf team and set up the label for further success ahead of the game’s 1.0 release in Q4 2023.

“Having watched closely from afar, it’s clear that Modern Wolf is at an exciting and crucial juncture in its journey as a publisher,” said Elliott, looking ahead to his appointment in March. “I’m hugely excited to be coming onboard at a time when there’s a lot of momentum, and working with the team to nurture the existing portfolio, grow the team, and take the Modern Wolf label to lofty new heights.”

Paul Wedgewood, Founder of Supernova Capital, said, “Modern Wolf is a pivotal part of Supernova’s portfolio and ambitions in game publishing. Phil brings with him the reputation and experience to supercharge Modern Wolf’s output in the indie development space.”

Modern Wolf, founded in 2019, is a publisher of forever games; deep, intricate, and soulful games that aim to be a permanent fixture of a player’s game library.

2023 continues the publisher’s run of memorable releases with Afterschool Studio’s spiritual sci-fi and grand tactics title Cantata, Blue Bottle Games’ complex spaceship-sim Ostranauts, and CABO Studio’s post-apocalyptic extraction shooter ZERO Sievert.
