4 PS4 Exclusives That You Should Own

The PlayStation 4 will be in its seventh year come this November and with the PS5 looming on the horizon, the PS4 life cycle will end not long after it’s released. Over the past seven years, there have been a good number exclusive games produced for the platform (from the action genre to action-adventure, adventure, sports, racing, role-playing, shooters, platforming, fighting and, of course, VR). Let’s take a look at four titles that I think every PlayStation 4 owner should have in their collection.

Bloodborne

Released in March 2015 is a game from Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware — creators of the legendary action role-playing games Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, Dark Souls III, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. This action-packed RPG is brimming with unforgiving and unrelenting terror, and was developed exclusively for the PlayStation 4. In this game, you face your fears as you search for answers in the ancient city of Yharnam, which is cursed with a strange endemic illness spreading through the streets like wildfire. The danger is an ever-present shadow in this horrific world, and you must discover its darkest secrets in order to survive. According to game director Hidetaka Miyazaki, the decision to create a new intellectual property (IP) and not another Souls game was made because he wanted to produce something “different” … at the same time, Sony wanted a new IP to be made exclusively for the PlayStation 4. This game has received critical acclaim with praise being directed at its gameplay, particularly its high level of difficulty, sound design, atmospheric environments, interconnected world design, and plot. This is one title that you shouldn’t pass up on if you are a PS4 owner and are looking for something fresh and challenging (even if you aren’t a fan of the Souls games) or if you are a fan of horror games.

inFAMOUS Second Son

This game was developed by Sucker Punch Productions and released on March 21st, 2014 — just four months after the PS4 launched and acts as the follow-up to the PS3 exclusive inFAMOUS 2. In the inFAMOUS world, players are surrounded by a society that fears superhumans called “Conduits” who are ruthlessly hunted down and caged by the Department of Unified Protection.

When Delsin Rowe discovers his powers, he’s forced to run … searching for other superhumans in order to save those he loves from the oppressive D.U.P. that’s hot on his tail. The choices he makes along the way change the future of everyone around him. This action-adventure game is set in an open world environment and played from a third-person perspective. Players control the main character as he can parkour-style climb vertical surfaces like high-rise buildings and also manipulate materials such as smoke, neon, video, and concrete. Over the course of the story, you gain these powers as you fight against the Department of Unified Protection. Your actions will determine what kind of hero you are. Are you good and care about saving lives? Are you an anti-hero who just wants to get the job done? Only you will know as you play.

Two special edition versions of the game were produced. Pre-ordered and first-run copies of the game received the Limited Edition, which includes the “Cole’s Legacy” mission pack that explain story events between Infamous 2 and Second Son. The other was a “Collector’s Edition.” A follow-up release entitled  inFAMOUS First Light is available as well, which tells the story of Fetch (a supporting character you meet in Second Son) through a fill-in backstory of how she gained her powers.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End

Released on May 10th, 2016 and set three years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Nathan Drake has presumably left the world of fortune-hunting behind. However, it doesn’t take long for fate to come calling when Drake’s brother, Sam, resurfaces seeking his help to save his own life and offering an adventure Drake can’t resist.

On the hunt for Captain Henry Avery’s long-lost treasure, Sam and Drake set off to find Libertalia — the pirate utopia deep in the forests of Madagascar. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End takes players on a journey around the globe through jungle isles, far-flung cities, and snow-capped peaks on the search for Avery’s fortune. Also available is Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection which is a remastered version of the series’ three main installments. Also available is The Lost Legacy that finishes off Uncharted 4 and possibly the Uncharted franchise. This series isn’t one to miss on the PS3 and it isn’t worth sleeping on via PS4.

The Last of Us Remastered

The Last of Us Remastered is an action-adventure survival horror game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. An enhanced version of 2013’s The Last of Us was released for PlayStation 4 worldwide on July 29th, 2014 and just like the original version, the game received critical acclaim.

The game takes place 20 years after a plague decimated civilization as survivors cling to life inside harsh quarantine zones. Outside though, viciously infected and ruthless human outlaws roam the land. For Joel, every day is about looking out for number one. But when he’s charged with escorting a teenager named Ellie who’s in search of a resistance group called the “Fireflies,” they’ll find their will to survive is pushed to the limit.

The Last of Us Remastered includes the stunning original game fully realized using the power of PS4, plus all of the Season Pass extra content (including the chance to delve into Ellie’s past in the additional single-player chapter “Left Behind”). Challenge yourself with a new difficulty mode and extra multiplayer maps, and discover more about the beautifully desolate game-world in a behind-the-scenes documentary from the cast and creators. With The Last of Us Part II just around the corner, this is another hit you don’t want to miss. Just remember to ask yourself … what will you do to survive?

These are just a few of the great examples that hit the PS4 in the past six and a half years, and there are still a few to come! Be sure to pick these up now if you haven’t already as well as any other PS4 exclusives that you come across in the near future.
