Skyrim’s Anniversary Edition: Worth The Extra Cost?

Let’s just call a spade a spade. Skyrim has at this point been released so many times that it somewhat has become a meme. With that said, I think one never should rule out a new release since the game has managed to capture such a large community of gamers with its thrilling gameplay and well-put-together storyline.

The game has always been well received by its millions of fans, and now that the studio behind the beloved title is releasing an anniversary edition there is increased anticipation. So naturally, people may be wondering, is it worth the extra cost or would it be better to take advantage of top-rated Amatic casinos instead? We’ll leave the decision up to you.

Back to the Beginning

The Skyrim developer Bethesda Game Studios has consistently managed to add new things with each of its releases, even if it has been more minor things. Still, this release is supposedly the best one yet. The studio has made a statement about their new anniversary release, calling it “the most definitive version of Skyrim to date”.

If this is true, then who knows what the studio has in store when the game celebrates its 15th anniversary in five years. All we can do is wait with excitement.

Anyway, let us focus on the now. Skyrim was initially released on 11/11/11, brilliantly utilizing this as a marketing ploy. Similarly, the Anniversary edition was launched on the same date. So how much would this new edition run you?

It costs £47.99 if you are just buying the game alone. However, if you are an avid Skyrim lover and have already bought the special edition released in 2016, the anniversary edition is available as a DLC.

The Latest Upgrade

This upgrade costs significantly less, running you £15.99. Also worth mentioning for all gamers that play Skyrim on Xbox, the anniversary edition is not included in the Xbox Game Pass. If you do use Game Pass, the most clever thing you can do is get the 2016 special edition, which is available, and get the DLC upgrade. Doing this would give you a 10% discount rather than just purchasing a whole new game.

So when Bethesda Game Studios call this game the most definitive version of the game to date, it might be tough to gauge what it exactly means. To grasp what is new with the game, we will list everything to provide you with a better overview and then give our opinion, is it worth paying for?

  • The Skyrim’s special edition
  • The original game DLCs: Hearthfire, Dragonborn, and Dawnguard
  • Next-generation improvements
  • The creation club items that were released before (48 items)
  • Brand new creation club items (26 new items)

Just to refresh your memory a little bit, Bethesda’s Creation Club is the place where you can find paid DLCs. These are either made by the software developer or verified external creators.

The current 48 items released earlier include expansions for quests, new enemies, cool weapons, and some changes to improve the overall gameplay. Some of the new items that arrived with the Anniversary edition will be Morrowind-inspired weapons, new armors, and a quest expansion called The Cause.

What Else?

Something else that probably is worth considering is, are you playing the current game with mods? Because if you do, the chances are that this anniversary edition will interfere with your mods. If something interferes with your mods and you are particularly fond of them, then there is a rollback mod that recently got released. This will essentially roll your game back to the version before the Anniversary edition and will allow you to maintain your current mods.

For the Skyrim pc players – you might be stressing about how this will affect your wallet in terms of system upgrades. There is no need to be worried. The anniversary edition will have the same system requirements, so there is no need to update your computer with new parts.

Conclusion

So the question still stands, is it worth spending the extra money to purchase this new release of Skyrim? When you look at what you get for the price you pay, it is pretty affordable. Skyrim’s prior releases have been decent, and if this is supposed to top them all, we cannot help but think that it is worth it.

It is a small price to pay to milk some additional satisfaction from an old classic game. With that out of the way, we can only start to look ahead and wait for its 15th anniversary because one thing is for certain, they will probably make another release in classic Skyrim fashion.
