Multiplayer party game Spaceteam VR will be available on Oculus and Steam from the 21st May 2020. Spaceteam VR is an immersive cooperative shouting game, a ‘shout-em-up’ if you will!
Teams of up to six players work together communicating increasingly complex and baffling technobabble filled instructions to keep their ship hurtling through space. The game is played under the constant threat of annihilation from supernova, asteroids, slime, Aliens, power surges and an eccentric ageing space ship. The best way to deal with the chaos is to lean into it and work together with your fellow space cadets to figure out how to get through as many sectors as you can.
Developers Cooperative Innovations licenced the popular multiplayer mobile game from Henry Smith of Sleeping Beast Games to convert it into a VR game “because it was an obvious choice for us, it’s a very funny cooperative multiplayer game and the reason we set up the business was to make the most of the social and collaborative nature of VR” said CEO and Co-Founder Simon Barratt.
Henry has been supporting Cooperative Innovations throughout their development of the game and he told us that:
“It’s just like Spaceteam but attached directly to your face with an extra dimension and lots more arm-flailing! It’s great being able to see your VR teammates frantically mashing their consoles beside you. And there are lots of little touches that really capture the feeling of the original game.”
As well as playing remotely with other headsets online there is a local ‘face to face’ mode that will enable people sharing the same space to play with up to 6 mobile devices and headsets.
Initially released on Steam VR, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest with a PlayStation VR version later in the year.
With the continuing advice to stay home this is a great game to play online with friends. It might be a good idea to warn your neighbours that there will be shouting and that you’re OK as you are working together with friends as a Spaceteam!
