Square Enix® has released the live-action mystery-adventure game The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story on the App Store® and Google Play™, following its successful 2022 debut on the PlayStation®5 (PS5™) console, PlayStation®4 (PS4™) console, Nintendo Switch™ system, and PC (STEAM®).

Directed by Koichiro Ito (Metal Gear Solid V) and produced by Junichi Ehara (NieR:Automata™), The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story merges live-action sequences and top-notch cinematography to deliver an unparalleled visual storytelling experience. Players take on the role of Haruka Kagami, a mystery writer tasked with using her deductive skills to investigate four mysterious deaths within the Shijima family over the past century.

Yasuhito Tachibana, the cinematographer and scenario director known for his work on Netflix’s The Naked Director, leads players through captivating cinematics set across various eras of Japan. The story features enthralling performances by Nanami Sakuraba as Haruki Kagami and Yuta Hiraoka as Eiji Shijima, the family heir who returns home to help uncover the truth. The game showcases a skillfully crafted, traditional Japanese narrative with talented actors portraying a diverse cast of period-specific characters.

On mobile devices, The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story employs touch-screen controls and introduces quality-of-life improvements to various gameplay aspects. Players must find clues within the live-acted scenes and connect them during the deduction phase, which now features more intuitive logical connections. Formulating hypotheses for each time period will unlock the hidden final chapter.

Producer Junichi Ehara expressed enthusiasm for the game’s mobile release, saying, “We are excited to bring our intricately woven story to mobile devices so that more sleuths can unravel the threads which connect 100 years of mysterious murder cases.” He added, “We hope players enjoy and become engrossed by this truly unique combination of gameplay and live-action storytelling.”
