Mobile esports tournament Summoners War Championship is making a grand return as the fourth annual competition kicks off this weekend. Summoners War Championship 2020 (SWC2020) will run from Friday, Aug. 28 through Sunday, Aug. 30, featuring preliminary rounds where players from Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas begin their three-month journey for a chance to win the $210,000 prize pool in November’s World Finals.
“Summoners War Championship continues to grow beyond our wildest expectations,” said Kyu Lee, president, GAMEVIL Com2uS. “Last year’s SWC viewership was our largest yet and although the 2020 tournament will be held entirely online for the safety of our players and staff, we have no doubt that this year’s competition will be fierce and viewership will be on par or exceed our in-person events.”
This weekend’s preliminary rounds include 40 competitors from Asia-Pacific, 16 from the Americas and 16 from Europe dueling head-to-head in heated Summoners War battles. In the end, eight players from their respective preliminaries will advance to Regional Cups. These include Americas Cup on Saturday, Oct. 24, Asia-Pacific Cup on Saturday, Oct. 31 and Europe Cup on Saturday Nov. 7.
Audiences can watch the world’s top Summoners War players compete on the monster collecting game’s YouTube and Twitch channels. The Americas Cup preliminaries will stream in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Schedules for worldwide preliminaries are as follows:
- Asia-Pacific Cup preliminaries – 10 a.m. PT on Friday, Aug. 28 and Saturday, Aug. 29
- Americas Cup preliminaries – 12 p.m. PT on Saturday, Aug. 29 and Sunday, Aug. 30
