The 5 Best Star Wars Video Games Ever

Launching later this month, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) will see the Resistance V the First Order once again in the final chapter of the Skywalker saga. This final film in the Kylo Ren/Rey series will mark the ninth film installment in the 40-year sci-fi film franchise. Fans need not worry though, as Disney will be sure to carry on the franchise through many other mediums.

It is not only films where Star Wars fans can experience great lightsaber fights and the power of the Force. There have also been many Star Wars video games released over the years too. For decades, film fans have been able to play film-inspired games on Xbox, Playstation, and PC. There are even many film-inspired online slot games that are available to play too. If you’re interested in finding out more about which have been the best Star Wars game, then check out this list that ranks some of the best ones in the franchise:

  1. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga (2007)

Traveller’s Tales’ popular series of Lego video games have been around for almost 15 years now, but Lego Star Wars was its first entry. 2007’s Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga pulls together all of the levels from the first game and its sequel, which was based on the prequel trilogy. With a goofier, light-hearted take on the sci-fi drama, Lego Star Wars isn’t going to blow anyone away with deep gameplay. However, it showcases a ton of heart and respect for the franchise. Plus its never-ending list of unlockable characters, vehicles, and other goodies can keep you busy for ages.

If you’d rather wait a little longer, Traveller’s Tales has confirmed it’s working on another Lego Star Wars game. Titled Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, this edition will include levels and characters from all nine of the main Star Wars movies and is set to be released sometime in 2020.

  1. Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast (2002)

What’s the most video game-ready thing about Star Wars? Lightsabers. And no game does lightsabers better than Jedi Outcast. A follow-up to the Dark Forces series of first-person shooters, players take on the role of a Jedi named Kyle Katarn. In addition to white-knuckle lightsaber combat, you’ll build up a strong variety of cool force powers to play with as the game progresses, making navigating each level and surviving each fight an absolute blast.

  1. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron (1998)

The rest of this list focuses on the human-level conflict, but that’s missing an entire side of the appeal of Star Wars: the big crazy space battles. There have been some excellent ship fighting games in the Star Wars franchise, but for our money, none have been quite as good and quite as iconic as Rogue Squadron. Developer Factor 5 created a game that spans all three of the original Star Wars films and allows you to play through recreations of some of the most iconic space and planetside ship combat sequences from those movies. Even with the old, blocky N64 graphics, it captures the feel of flying an X-Wing so well that it’s hard not to feel like you’re actually a part of your favorite scenes.

  1. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019)

While this video game was only just released this November, it’s good enough to easily make its way towards the top of the list. Developed by Respawn Entertainment, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is a sprawling epic action-adventure game set in the Star Wars universe prior to the start of Episode IV. Rather than a simple linear story, this game requires plenty of exploration and puzzle-solving. You’ll get sent from one side of the universe to the other and back again as you unlock new powers. On top of all that, the lightsaber combat here is as intense as it’s ever been done.

  1. Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic (2003)

Knights of the Old Republic (or KOTOR, as it’s known by fans) is not just the best Star Wars game of all time – it’s one of the best role-playing games of all time, period. Developed by the RPG masterminds at BioWare, KOTOR expands on the Star Wars lore with a tale set thousands of years before the time period of the movies. You play a character you create yourself and must spend the game uncovering your forgotten past, bringing together a memorable team of allies, and fighting the powerful Sith lord Darth Malak. It all climaxes in one of the craziest twists in gaming history, making for an experience you’ll never forget. The 2004 sequel, Knights of the Old Republic II, is also worth playing, if a little sloppier.
