The Indie Houses’ first-ever Steam event and Direct showcase has come to an end after a week of streams, sales, and reveals. To make true on the promise to elevate all indies, the focus of this indie collective now turns to the Underrepresented Devs Fund, which is now taking submissions.
The purpose of this fund is to help identify vision holders of great potential in emerging countries or marginalized groups and give them the tools to bring their visions to life. In its inaugural year, the Fund will focus on game development in Africa. Through the African Game Dev Prototype Fund, members of The Indie Houses, Annapurna Interactive, and Games Industry Africa will distribute funds and necessary resources to the top candidates which are selected by a jury of members from the different houses. Submissions open today and can be found on the Games Industry Africa website.
In addition to the fund, The Indie Houses will continue its commitment to indies helping indies through transparency and cooperation with others in the industry. Discussions amongst the seven current members will begin on how to get others involved with the organization. In the meantime, the website has many useful resources to aid in navigating the indie space, like a list of upcoming industry events (including information on submissions and deadlines), information on getting started on the business side of indies, and links to various grants with plans to add more to the site over time.
