Uragun to Roll Out Major Early Access Updates Landing It In a New Genre

After gathering community feedback Kool2Play decided to change the game genre. A roguelite structure builds upon Uragun’s solid foundations increasing its variety and replayability.

Kool2Play, an independent game dev studio from Warsaw announced today that they are introducing major changes to Uragun – their debut title available currently in Steam Early Access. Players enjoy its tight and satisfying combat, but their feedback points wish for deeper and replayable systems. The studio also thinks a change is needed and is already working on a new version.

Everything that players praise about Uragun will stay the same: smooth top-down shooting, challenging and well-balanced encounters, stunning environments, and funny AI chatter.

  • Permadeath. Whenever the player’s mech is destroyed, they’ll have to start a completely new run. Most of the items that were collected (weapons, mods, expansion cartridges, …) will be lost.
  • Randomized world map. Players will always be facing a different set of missions and rewards. After every defeat, the evil AI will reconfigure the travel routes so the journey through every region will always be different.
  • Permanent progression. Although most items will be lost after death, there will be a skill tree for the player to spend the permanent resources that can be found in every run and increase their chances against the hordes of machines. This will only help so much, of course, to succeed players have to master the combat of Uragun.
  • Re-built upgrade system. To adapt to the new structure, but also to make it even deeper and more enjoyable, the studio will expand the types of gear that can be collected so players can create even more varied and lethal builds for their mech.

However, the new roguelite structure is not the only thing the team is working on. Kool2Play has been working on Uragun since its Early Access launch – doing some technical groundwork, like updating the engine and addressing some aspects that should significantly improve the game’s performance in the future. Additionally, plenty of new content is in the works and will be added to the game with the next update.

  • New region: Nairobi’s Underground. Kenya’s capital became a hyper-advanced technological metropolis. Under its ever less habitable surface, due to the climate crisis, an endless labyrinth of tunnels and facilities was built. Our mech’s journey will lead us to this place that was once the home of a revolution and then a hideout for the resistance against AI corruption. But the additions won’t only be visual. Nairobi’s underground will be inhabited by new enemy types with attacks and movement patterns that can’t be seen in the other regions. The shape and size of the arenas are also different to support the gameplay.
  • More enemy types. The team wants to push as much as possible the differences in terms of enemies among regions. With this in mind, they are redistributing existing units, making many of them exclusive to only one region, but also creating new variants or entirely new enemies. New types of attacks, new ways of moving… all to make sure that players will be facing interesting and varied challenges.
  • Weapons, Mods, Heat Attacks, and much more. To support the roguelite structure and make every run truly unique, there are plans for many new weapons and upgrades. All these items combined support an outstanding variety of playstyles.

The release date for the next update of Uragun is not yet decided. The team will try to share the first roguelite version with players as soon as possible in order to be able to incorporate their feedback and build a memorable experience together with the community.
