In just a few weeks on Steam Early Access, Valheim sold more than four million units and attracted the fifth highest peak concurrent player base in Steam history.

I would expect nothing less from the Vikings genre, it’s hot like the tip of an axe. People love it! We look forward to updates and content expansions. The sky is the limit for this great title. Let’s hope the developers stay as dedicated to the title as the fans. – Theo GLYFE Creator

Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio are delighted to reveal that their multiplayer Viking survival game Valheim sold more than four million units in just a few weeks since it launched on Steam Early Access! In just 21 days on the platform, Valheim attracted over 500,000 peak concurrent players, one of only five games in Steam history to do so. Its all-time peak player count is currently behind only CS:GO, Dota 2, PUBG, and Cyberpunk 2077.

Valheim continues to attract critical and player acclaim, with over 80,000 positive user reviews on Steam. It has also been climbing the ranks of the 250 top reviewed games of all time, currently sitting at number 57. On Twitch, Valheim has maintained a steady stream of fans, reaching a new peak concurrent viewership of 188,000 on February 22nd. Since launch, fans have now spent more than 28M hours watching Valheim gameplay and over 10,000 years playing.

Iron Gate Studio has already revealed a living Early Access roadmap, promising new biomes, new enemies, and improvements to combat, ships, and more. Created by Iron Gate Studio, Valheim began as a one-man passion project from CEO Richard Svensson in 2018, and the team was expanded to five by 2020. Coffee Stain, also headquartered in Skövde, came on board as a publisher in 2019.

Richard Svensson, CEO, Iron Gate Studio on the success of Valheim. “I don’t think I have really had time to contemplate it. I know that players like the game a lot, but at the same time, I think that I can make something even better in the future. I’m looking forward to adding more content to the game, especially working on the remaining biomes. Our current roadmap only reaches the next biome and we hope to have it done by the end of the year, but it might very well take longer depending on how smooth the development will be. I really don’t want to stress the development, that never ends well.”

“I was describing Valheim to a friend over a year ago as a game that made me feel how I felt when I fell in love in games for the first time. Up until three weeks ago, I thought this was a unique connection I alone had with Valheim,” said Albert Säfström, CEO, Coffee Stain Publishing. “Seeing the incredible reception from players in these past weeks has made me realize that Valheim is something truly special, not only for me but for more players than I could have imagined.”
