The unique mining game known from many VR platforms is coming to Switch on the 28th of December. Developed by Finnish game publisher VRKiwi, the single player adventure has got praise for its combination of mining exploration, random encounters, and Cave Digger’s sandboxy world combining western, sci-fi and steampunk elements, with nine different endings.
The game takes place in a seemingly abandoned western town in a region referred to as The Frontier. The town has an old mining network. Excavate precious things to upgrade your gear and progress deeper to the mines. What secrets you will find depends on your decisions. Many questions will arise along the way but one thing is constant, there’s something mysterious about The Frontier mines.
Cave Digger is now available on virtually any gaming device (sans mobile). It gained high attraction on Oculus Quest, being one of the first games accepted to the then new platform. Due to many players showing interest in the game but having no VR headset to play it, VRKiwi ported it to flat-screens over the course of 2020.
Also, last October VRKiwi officially confirmed that the game will have a sequel. According to the publisher source, it’s going to be the largest Finnish VR game production to date, and the sequel carries the name Cave Digger 2: Dig Harder. The first gameplay footage of the sequel will be expected to reveal in the first half of 2021.
