Xbox’s GM Not worried About PS5?

GM of Xbox Games Marketing, Aaron Greenberg, says he’s not worried about the PlayStation 5 … Why? Because Xbox isn’t competitor-obsessed anymore and more focused on consumers. Xbox isn’t sitting up at night thinking about how to beat the PS5 or sitting there twiddling their thumbs on how to beat the next competitor. Rather, it’s driving in its own lane. According to Greenberg when speaking to Kotaku, Sony has built a great business with PlayStation, with a strong brand and a strong presence. However, Greenberg also notes that Microsoft has been making its own moves.

“Not really. We’re customer-obsessed than competitor-obsessed,” said Greenberg when asked if there’s been anything he’s seen from the PS5 that has him worried. “I think Sony has built a great business, they have a very strong brand and a strong presence and we have a lot of admiration for what they’ve done.”

Greenberg continued:

“I think it depends on what type of games you want to play and what type of device you’re on. There are different segments of customers who want different things. So people who have invested in a high-end 4K TV and really want a very powerful product, I think it does matter to them. They’re trying to decide, ‘Which third-party game do I buy?’ ‘Where do I play Call of Duty?’ Or whatever their favorite game may be. Knowing that the game’s going to look and play better on Xbox One X, I think does matter to that person.”

“Listen, the Switch is a great device, we love it, we have Switches, and having that as an on-the-go gaming device, you’re right, I think that’s not a platform where the resolution matters as much. And that’s okay too. I think [there’s] a different set of customers, and also different devices and different use cases where people prioritize different things. I think that’s okay. You’re right that there’s many cases where it’s fine. Games have to be great, ultimately. They have to be fun, they have to be engaging, and sometimes they’re visual showcases, and sometimes they’re not. I think that’s what kind of makes the industry so distinct from others.”

While Greenberg is insisting he isn’t thinking about what Sony has cooking with the PS5, the reality is I’m sure it’s on the mind of Xbox. PlayStation is still its biggest space competitor of this current console generation, and there are many gamers who will (once again) be making a choice between the two brands’ next generation consoles. I know I plan to pick up the PS5 and Scarlett when they both launch next year, and we here at GamingLyfe have confirmed that both Xbox Scarlett and PS5 will arrive sometime holiday 2020. When during this window hasn’t been officially announced yet, nor have price points for the consoles or really any salient details.

There are rumors flying around online, but they are rumors … so always take them with a grain of salt until something is officially confirmed by PlayStation or Xbox.

That said, expect that to change as 2019 rounds the corner and runs into 2020. Stay Tuned to GamingLyfe for more.
