On August 18, the vibrant, side-scrolling platformer originally released on the Amiga by Gremlin Graphics in 1992, will be released on Steam – remastered and ready to return to the Nth Dimension.
Developed by Sumo Digital Academy and published by Secret Mode, Zool Redimensioned isn’t your typical remake. Zool has been brought back to life by students of Sumo Digital Academy, a talent development program for graduates looking to make their first career move, with skills in various different industries. The Academy’s first students joined in September 2020, and in less than a year have rebuilt Zool and designed its engine from scratch with no prior experience in C++ coding. A year ago, this group had no game design experience, now they’re releasing their very first game in a bespoke engine to run on modern PCs!
Zool was ported to several other platforms in the years that followed, and inspired spin-offs in other forms of media, including remixed soundtracks and two young adult novels.
