XPG Precog Gaming Headset Review

Summary
XGP introduces their new Precog gaming headset featuring dual drivers, 7.1 surround sound, environmental noise cancelation, and cross-platform compatibility priced at $99.00. At first glance, the Precog looks a bit bulky and heavy. Surprisingly enough it's mega light weighing in at a meer 362g which is on the lighter side of most gaming headsets. The Precog features both an electrostatic and dynamic speaker. Such a LIT combo the electrostatic speaker offers next level clarity while the dynamic speaker gives it tone. Performance wise it is on par with other headsets in this price bracket. An added bonus for its compatibility and daily lifestyle features.

At first glance, the Precog looks a bit bulky and heavy. Surprisingly enough it’s mega light, weighing in at a meer 362g which is on the lighter side of gaming headsets. I totally sold on the looks I think the earpieces and the metal swivel holding them in place are a bit bulky in design. The memory foam on the headband is not mounted to the frame so when you put the headset on it adjusts to your head size instead of the earpieces pulling down. It’s a comfortable fit overall but the memory foam is of lower quality, when you press down on the earpiece cushions they don’t have that deep slow compression we all love. I do like Precogs memory foam cushions though, they are a flat smooth surface giving users a longer wear time compared to mesh. Microphone and cords are all detachable making it easy to store in the dope carrying case it comes with. Inside the case, you will literally find every cord on the planet 3.5mm, USB, USB-C, and more.

In most cases, anytime you have a dual driver headset you are in for some great quality immersive sound. The Precog features both an electrostatic and dynamic speaker. This is such a LIT combo the electrostatic speaker offers next-level clarity while the dynamic speaker gives it a deep tone. The contrast between the two provides a top-quality immersive sound experience users will rock too. You are also getting excellent direction sound from the 7.1 surround sound system. It’s compatible with just about everything including mobile devices, PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Its environmental noise cancellation technology is excellent, but the microphone quality overall is middle of the road. The Microphone is detachable so if you upgrade to a USB or XLR mic you won’t have it in your face. This headset bumps so you will get excellent daily lifestyle use if you are comfortable rocking out the bulky earpieces.

Precog does feature a really nice-looking side RGB display which you often don’t see at this price point. It will make a great display piece for your battle station at night but unfortunately, it is not adjustable and only comes in red. If the Precog didn’t come with such a nice carrying case and all the extra cords I would like to see it priced around $79.99. It really depends on your application if the extras will provide you value or not. Performance wise it is on par with the other headsets in this price bracket. An added bonus for its compatibility and daily lifestyle features. Taking everything into consideration I would like to see this priced at $89.99. It’s a solid headset, a major bonus if are using RED-themed RGB at your station but either way a good purchase overall.
