Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled has been doing pretty well for itself in the land of kart racing games ever since it launched back on June 21st, and the team at Beenox is looking to take things to the next level.
It was revealed in early July that Spyro the Dragon would be gliding into Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled. Now we know the full details of the seasonal Spyro & Friends Grand Prix —adding a new track, karts, racers, and, of course, everyone’s favorite flame-breathing, purple dragon and it all starts tomorrow! Thomas Wilson, Co-Studio Head of Beenox, was able to unveil all the info you need on the Spyro & Friends Grand Prix:
“As always, the Grand Prix is available at no additional cost for anyone who’s purchased Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled** so make sure to jump in starting on August 30th as this Grand Prix season will bring new characters, new karts, and new items into the race, and introduce a whole new track. What makes this season so exciting is the fact that this time it brings together two classic franchises into one and is the perfect way to celebrate both. We at Beenox are huge Spyro fans and have not been able to keep our hands off of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy since its release last year. We are (obviously) also huge Crash fans, so being able to create a world where these two franchises can co-exist in all of their whacky glory has been an incredibly fun undertaking.”
“This season you’ll see Spyro showing up all over the place in CTR — in the opening menu screen, in the Grand Prix cinematic, and, of course, in the game itself. Spyro, Hunter, and Gnasty Gnorc will be added as unlockable playable characters, with all of the personality that you come to expect from them. You’ll also see some amazing new karts such as the Spyromobile and Gnasty Ride which give their namesakes some blistering rides to boast about.”
“In addition to these, you’ll have the opportunity to unlock amazing new decals, stickers, and paint jobs to deck out your karts with, and a ton of awesome new skins for characters new and old, such as the Dark Spyro and Gnome Velo skins”
As you can see, there’s a ton of content to unlock when the Grand Prix begins so let’s take a look at how you can obtain the new content, and what other little changes are in store for this Grand Prix.
Spyro & Grand Prix contains:
- three new playable characters: Spyro, Hunter the Cheeta, and Gnasty Gnorc. Spyro himself is gained by completing the Bronze tier of the Nitro gage. Hunter the cheetah and Spyro 1 villain Gnasty Gnorc are available in the Pit Stop.
- You also will be able to gain several new skins for characters. Polar, Zam, Komodo Joe, Big Norm, and Real Velo get fantasy skins themed after the Spyro Universe and a few in-jokes. But these won’t be the only skins you will receive during the Grand Prix. Over on the Nitro Gage, you also get two skins for Coco and Crunch Respectively.
- A Silver-tier skin for Coco will be available and is based off her mutated form in Crash Mind Over Mutant.
- A Gold tier skin for Crunch is based off his Mutated form from Crash Mind Over Mutant as well.
- And naturally, there’s lots of Nitro fueled colors, wheels, stickers, and decals along the way.
Additionally:
- Spyro’s companion Sparx acts as the Protective shield in the place of Aku Aku, Uka Uka, and Emperor Velo’s mask. Along with all these comes with new challenges for N. Sane edition … the amount of Nitro including themed challenges, Pro challenges, daily challenges, weekly challenges, and more.
And as with the other Grand Prix:
- Players who earn the top 5% ranking in the leaderboards get the champion kart and Spyro & Friends decal.
