Atari Acquires Surgeon Simulator Franchise: Surgical Chaos Gets a New Home

Infogrames Expands Its Portfolio with the Cult-Favorite Medical Sim Series

Atari Takes Over Surgeon Simulator Franchise: Get Ready for More Surgical Shenanigans

Atari’s game publishing arm, Infogrames, just made a major move by acquiring the Surgeon Simulator franchise from tinyBuild Inc. This legendary medical sim, known for its wild first-person surgeries, has players performing life-saving heroics in the most bizarre settings imaginable—think moving ambulances, hospital hallways, and even zero-gravity space.

Surgeon Simulator first hit the scene on PC and Mac back in 2013, quickly gaining a cult following with its over-the-top gameplay and dark humor. By 2014, gamers could take the surgical mayhem on the go with mobile ports and experience it on the PS4. The madness continued with Surgeon Simulator VR: Meet The Medic, bringing the franchise to virtual reality on both PlayStation 4 and Windows in 2016. The Nintendo Switch got a taste of the action with Surgeon Simulator CPR in 2018. The franchise leveled up in 2020 with Surgeon Simulator 2: Access All Areas, offering a brand-new sequel with four-player online co-op on PC, which later hit Xbox in 2021.

Geoffroy Châteauvieux, the manager at Infogrames, is stoked about the acquisition, saying, “More than 10 years after the original release, Surgeon Simulator remains a popular and unique franchise. This was a rare opportunity to acquire a game with a timeless appeal, and we are excited to have Surgeon Simulator within the Infogrames portfolio.”

This marks the second casual multiplayer sim that Infogrames has snagged, following their acquisition of Totally Reliable Delivery Service in April 2024. The plan is to crank up distribution, possibly develop new titles or content, and explore brand and merchandising collaborations to keep the Surgeon Simulator franchise fresh and exciting for years to come.

Stay tuned, scalpel jockeys—there’s more wacky, heart-pounding surgery action on the horizon with Atari at the helm!
