In a move that’s got the gaming world buzzing, Paradox Interactive has decided to axe the much-anticipated game Life by You by Paradox Tectonic studio based in Berkeley, California. This decision hits hard, bringing a MSEK 208 write-down for the second quarter of 2024, reflecting the total capitalized development costs of the game.
Fredrik Wester, the big boss at Paradox Interactive, dropped some real talk about the decision. “We’ve been banking on Life by You for a hot minute, hoping it would deliver the goods. But it’s clear now that the game won’t meet our high expectations. The version we want is too far out of reach, so we’re taking the tough call to cancel the release. We need to level up our performance and there’s a lot of grind ahead,” said Wester.
Wester didn’t hold back on the company’s recent slip-ups either. “Our recent game drops haven’t exactly been lit,” he continued. “Even though we’re starting new projects with a fresh approach, it’s obvious that more changes are needed to ensure we hit the quality marks and keep our promises to the players. We need to rethink our project management and organizational strategies because we’ve got to get better. But we’ve got a solid financial base and a strong lineup of core games, so we’re confident about what’s next.”
