Coffee Stain Publishing, MOOD Publishing, and Iron Gate Studio are stoked to drop some epic news: their smash-hit viking survival game Valheim is getting a board game makeover. Created by the award-winning designer Ole Steiness, known for turning the dwarven co-op game Deep Rock Galactic into a tabletop legend, this new adaptation will hit Gamefound later this year.

Unveiled at the Gamefound Feast, this board game version of Valheim is designed for 1-4 players. Gamers will step into the boots of fierce viking heroes, teaming up to show their worth to the Allfather as they navigate the perilous realm of Valheim. It’s a brutal, unforgiving world, so players gotta stick together, braving environmental dangers, battling monstrous foes, and taking down epic bosses to come out on top.

The game kicks off with four biomes straight from the digital Valheim: the Meadows, Black Forest, Swamps, and Mountains. Players start out with nothing but a basic house and have to scavenge for materials to craft weapons and gear. As they venture further, they’ll beef up their tools, fortify their base, and hunt mythical beasts, all while the game ramps up in intensity.

To crank up the Viking vibe, MOOD Publishing is also crafting a slew of figurines and artwork, including a viking longhouse representing players’ settlements. Boss fights are no joke, either. Players need to fire up forsaken altars to summon specific bosses, diving into unique arenas where they’ll face off against Valheim’s gnarliest creatures.

Ole Steiness, the mastermind behind the board game, couldn’t be more hyped. “I’ve clocked hundreds of hours in Valheim, so bringing this game to life is a dream come true. We’re making sure the tabletop version captures that wild sense of exploration and adventure that took the gaming world by storm. It’s coming together better than we could’ve imagined, with tons of fun and replayability.”

Henrik Törnqvist, co-founder of Iron Gate, added, “A Valheim board game was never in our plans, but it’s insanely exciting. The prototype has nailed the essence of Valheim beyond our expectations. We’re thrilled to team up with Ole and MOOD Publishing, who have a killer track record of staying true to the source material and creating games you’ll keep coming back to with your crew.”

For more deets on the Valheim board game, stay tuned. Meanwhile, Valheim is available on PC, Linux, and Xbox via Steam Early Access, Microsoft Store, and Game Pass, and on Mac through the Mac App Store.
