Echoes Update Brings Co-Op Play, No Microtransactions, and ARPG Loot

Airship Syndicate, the minds behind Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, Darksiders Genesis, and Battle Chasers: Nightwar, are back in action! Wayfinder is now available for new Steam players, with a console release slated for later this year.

The Big Deal

The Echoes Update, announced back in May, has flipped the game on its head. For $24.99 USD, you get a one-time purchase that unlocks all current and future Early Access content. This update went live for Founders on May 31st and has been getting love from players, content creators, and media alike.

What’s New in Wayfinder Echoes

Shift to Premium: Wayfinder is ditching its service-based model for a premium experience. This means offline solo or 3-player co-op play with no need for online accounts or in-game purchases. Perfect for Steam Deck and home PCs. All progress will reset as saves are now local.

Price and Access: Early Access pricing is set at $24.99, with a price hike expected at full release. This one-time fee covers everything up to the end of Early Access, with zero microtransactions. Founders keep their exclusive items.

Gameplay Overhaul: Major updates include four difficulty levels, randomized weapon drops, collectible armor sets, a revamped character acquisition system, expanded housing item limits, a fresh UI, and new RPG talent systems.

Meet Grendel, the Feral Force: Unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2023, Grendel is the newest Wayfinder. Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos and Barry J. Kelly, this short by 5 Count Productions showcases Grendel’s ferocity. Check it out now!

Dates and Platforms: Early Access on Steam kicks off June 11th. PlayStation 5 and 4 players can continue playing until the Echoes Update hits PlayStation 5. PS4 support will end then, with all PS4 versions upgraded to PS5 at no extra cost.

Looking Ahead: Expect matchmaking, new Wayfinders, weapons, armor, areas, quests, and more. Wayfinder will also launch on Xbox Series X|S by the end of 2024, marking its official release.

Developer’s Thoughts

Joe Madureira, CEO of Airship Syndicate, says, “Our team is very encouraged by the early reception to the Echoes Update. We knew the change was a risk, but player response confirmed it was the right move. This is just the beginning for Wayfinder.”

Final Words

While Wayfinder is still evolving, Airship Syndicate is committed to refining the game during Early Access. With matchmaking, new Wayfinders, expanded housing, and more on the way, Wayfinder’s world is set to grow. The shift to a solo developer and publisher comes with risks, but the team is ready.

Executive Producer AJ LaSaracina adds, “We love the world of Wayfinder, and with Echoes we’ll deliver a 1.0 product that can be enjoyed forever. During Early Access, we’ll introduce new content, and post-Early Access, we’ll keep adding areas, weapons, and Wayfinders. As our audience grows, we’ll continue to tell stories in Evenor.”

Airship Syndicate’s dedication to Wayfinder shines through this transformation, making it a game that players can enjoy for the long haul. This shift wasn’t in the original plan, but it has made the game better, providing a more meaningful experience.
