Unveiling 1000xRESIST: A New Era in Narrative Gaming
Scheduled to land on PC and Nintendo Switch on May 9, 1000xRESIST represents the first major project by the indie studio Sunset Visitor, based in Vancouver. This release is not only a game launch but an artistic manifesto from a team with roots deep in various art forms beyond gaming.
Celebrating Storytelling: LudoNarraCon and Award Nominations
The game launch coincides with LudoNarraCon, an innovative festival hosted by Fellow Traveller that focuses on revolutionary storytelling in video games. The buzz around 1000xRESIST is already high, thanks to its nominations for three significant awards at the Independent Game Festival 2024: Excellence in Narrative, the Nuovo Award, and the Seamus McNally Grand Prize.
A Melting Pot of Inspirations
1000xRESIST draws heavily from a diverse palette of creative influences, including the enigmatic video games of Yoko Taro, the groundbreaking anime of Hideaki Anno and Satoshi Kon, and the avant-garde theatre of Robert Wilson. This eclectic mix informs the game’s unique approach to storytelling, where interactive gameplay meets the emotional depth of cinema, theatre, and dance.
The Plot: A Dark Future
Set in a post-apocalyptic future where humans are extinct due to a mysterious disease from alien invaders, the game introduces players to Iris, the last human survivor who is both immune and immortal. Over a millennium, Iris has established a subterranean society of clones, named the Sisters, who worship her as their creator and protector, the ALLMOTHER.
Gameplay Dynamics: Role of Watcher
Players take on the role of a Sister known as Watcher, whose mission is to delve into the memories of the ALLMOTHER through a process called Communion. Assisted by a floating entity called Secretary, Watcher’s journey through these memories is fraught with psychological twists and profound revelations.
Engaging Game Mechanics and Features
1000xRESIST promises an immersive gaming experience with over 10 hours of narrative-rich gameplay, interspersed with both third-person and first-person perspectives. The game is enhanced by more than 15,000 lines of fully voiced dialogue, delivered by a talented cast of Asian-Canadian actors, and is complemented by a compelling soundtrack crafted by two skilled composers.
