Arcana of Paradise -The Tower-, a real-time roguelike deckbuilding adventure game developed by Tasto Alpha and published by SHUEISHA GAMES, is now available on Steam for PC and Nintendo Switch. To celebrate its launch, a special 22% discount is being offered until April 26th. The game, which was previously titled The Tower -To the Bottom-, features tarot-inspired gameplay and an engaging storyline crafted by Masaoki Shindo (Ruri Dragon) and Tom Ikeda (Black Bird, Rule of Rose, Director), accompanied by an eccentric soundtrack composed by Jun Fukuda (No More Heroes, Lollipop Chainsaw).
In Arcana of Paradise -The Tower-, players embark on a journey to guide a group of children trapped in a mysterious tower. They must venture into the tower’s depths to find food, treasure, and a rumored paradise, all while defending against various monsters. The game offers 20 playable characters across three different classes, each with unique starting cards and passive traits. Players can build their decks using over 100 tarot-inspired playing cards.
The game introduces real-time card combat, reminiscent of the Active Time Battles from classic RPGs, requiring players to think quickly and strategically. Players must effectively use offensive cards to create powerful combos, defensive cards to shield against enemy attacks, and healing cards to prolong their survival. In addition, card orientation plays a crucial role, as upside-down cards can have surprising effects on gameplay.
After each successful battle, players face the decision of either returning with additional food for their fellow tower dwellers or acquiring more battle cards to strengthen their deck. As players progress through the game, they can unlock new cards, characters, and items, encounter unique tower inhabitants, and discover the mystery of the Sacred Tree that demands sacrifices in exchange for special rewards.
Arcana of Paradise -The Tower- also features an Online Ranked Mode, allowing players to compete with others globally. Koichi Sugiyama, the game’s lead producer, expressed his excitement about the game’s real-time twist on the deckbuilding genre and the potential for players to create innovative card combinations.
