AWESOME GAMES DONE QUICK 2018 BEGINS THIS WEEKEND

Annual speedrun charity event begins week-long marathon on Sunday, January 7 in support of Prevent Cancer Foundation.

Games Done Quick, a grassroots organization known for its speedrunning charity events, will be hosting Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2018 at the Hilton Washington Dulles Airport Hotel in Herndon, VA this weekend. The event begins on Sunday, January 7 at 10:30 a.m. EST and will run through January 14, 2018. The week-long marathon runs around the clock with over 130 hours of speedrunning and featuring more than 150 speedrunners and their games. The speedrunners are coming together in support of Prevent Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to the prevention and early detection of cancer.

Speedrunning is the art of beating a video game as quickly as possible. A speedrun relies on tricks, extensive planning and the highest levels of play from the amazingly skilled and dedicated gamers that make up the speedrunning community. Games Done Quick’s speedruns showcase deep fandom and gameplay mastery combined with the unpredictability of live performance to create an unique new twist on traditional gaming.

Last year, more than 1,400 people attended Awesome Games Done Quick 2017 in person, and the Twitch live stream generated a total of more than 4 million unique viewers with a peak of 250,000 concurrent viewers. Fans of the event, the speedrunners, and the games show their support by making donations online. To date, the speedrunners and fans of Games Done Quick raised more than $6.6 million for Prevent Cancer Foundation.

One hundred percent of all AGDQ 2018 donations support Prevent Cancer Foundation.To date, Games Done Quick events have raised more than $12 million for charities including Prevent Cancer Foundation, Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières, Organization for Autism Research, and CARE.
