Rocketship Park’s first game mixes sliding tiles, falling blocks and frantic fun
A new puzzle game with old school roots, Block Droppin’ blasts off today and is landing exclusively on the App Store. Block Droppin’ is the first release from Rocketship Park, the new mobile games studio from industry veterans Shane McCafferty and Jim Squires.
“Jim and I love mobile puzzle games, and I’ve made more than a few myself,” says McCafferty. “Block Droppin’ felt like such a natural first game for us to make. It’s built around a few simple mechanics that we’ve refined and polished over months of development, and serves as a great showcase for what our new company is capable of.”
Mixing multiple puzzle genres into a single experience, Block Droppin’ challenges players to slide tiles to make shapes, and then drop those shapes to clear lines in a puzzle grid below. As players progress they’ll encounter new obstacles to overcome, all while racing the clock to proceed to the next level.
In addition to the game’s main Arcade mode, players will be able to unlock two additional styles of play to accommodate their skill level. Zen Mode offers all the fun of Block Droppin’ without the pressure of the timer, while Pro Mode ups the difficulty in an endless survival challenge where every line cleared earns back precious seconds.
“There are so many great puzzle games on mobile devices,” adds Squires, “but time and again, Shane and I have found ourselves reminiscing about the classic puzzle games of our youth. There was such a sense of discovery, strategy and panic in those games. Block Droppin’ is our attempt to bring that same feeling to a whole new generation.”
