The Ultimate Modding Showdown Begins
Overwolf, the renowned platform for in-game app creation, has joined forces with Studio Wildcard, creators of the ARK franchise. This epic collaboration heralds the launch of the ARKathon Mod Contest on Overwolf’s CurseForge, marking a new era in ARK: Survival Ascended‘s cross-platform modding capabilities.
A Creative Arena for Modders and Studios
Starting December 5, 2023, and running through February 5, 2024, the contest opens doors for creative minds. Whether you’re an individual modder or part of a game studio, the ARKathon offers two distinct tracks to showcase your creativity:
1. Modders Track: Individual creators can dive into crafting unique maps and mods. A hefty $50,000 prize pool awaits, to be shared among eight ingenious creators.
2. Studios Track: Game studios and teams are invited to develop DLC-level mods and premium content. The three most outstanding studios will each receive a $100,000 development grant to bring their visions to life.
The Path to Victory
For the Modders Track, participants can submit their creations under two categories: maps or mods. Uploading to CurseForge enters them into the competition. The process involves a judge-led selection of twelve finalists, followed by a community vote. The most celebrated map and mod will bag $10,000 and $4,000, respectively. In total, eight winners will be chosen, sharing the $50,000 prize, with the results announced on February 28, 2024.
The Studios Track contenders must present their DLC concepts through short, narrative-rich proposal videos, akin to Kickstarter campaigns. Playable demos earn extra points. Community votes and a judge panel will determine the winners, to be unveiled on the same date.
