Evercade Brings Back Game of the Month Feature for Evercade VS and Evercade EXP with Free Indie Games

Blaze Entertainment has reintroduced the Game of the Month feature for its Evercade VS and new Evercade EXP consoles. This well-received digital offering will provide nine free indie games throughout 2023 for users of these consoles, with a physical release slated for February 2024 as part of the Indie Heroes Collection 3 cartridge collection.

Beginning April 5th, 2022, Evercade VS and Evercade EXP handheld console users will receive a new indie game each month through a WiFi console update. These games will be available for play throughout the entire month until the first full week of the following month when the next update introduces a new game of the month.

This completely free feature serves as a “demo” style period for users to try these games before their physical release in February 2024 as part of the next Indie Heroes cartridge collection – Indie Heroes Collection 3. The full lineup for this collection will be announced later in the year.

The first game of the month, Donut Dodo from pixel.games, is a retro-arcade-inspired platformer that pays homage to early arcade classics. Notably, this game is not an emulation of old hardware but a native game for Evercade, developed using the modern Godot engine.

Evercade has also recently released the final update for the now-discontinued original handheld console, ensuring future compatibility with upcoming releases and final optimizations for the device. The Evercade EXP handheld gaming system and Evercade VS home console systems are currently available globally, with 37 game collections available and another 12 planned for release between now and February 2024.
