Enter VR-O-RAMA and See the Iconic Animated Universe of Wallace & Gromit Like Never Before

Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway is an interactive, narrative-led VR experience for Meta Quest VR headsets, which will take fans on a brand-new adventure with the beloved characters Wallace and Gromit. In this immersive virtual reality experience, users will be able to walk around, explore, and get a hands-on (or paws-on!) experience within the whimsical world of Wallace & Gromit, truly becoming a part of the pair’s adventures.

A Rocket-Powered Holiday Gone Astray

In The Grand Getaway, Wallace and Gromit are preparing for a well-deserved holiday. With their latest contraption, the Auto-Caddy, packed and ready, they are all set to enjoy some sun, sand, and relaxation. However, there’s a small problem—Wallace has mixed up the dates, and they need to be on the other side of the country in just half an hour. With time running out, the dynamic duo decides to take the Rocket, embarking on an unforgettable journey.

A Mishap-Filled Adventure Begins

Guided by BERYL, their beverage and employee-related logistics contraption, Wallace and Gromit prepare for take-off. But just moments after launching, a mishap with the controls sends them hurtling off course. As their plans go awry, they find themselves in the midst of unexpected and thrilling escapades. Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway promises to deliver a holiday experience like no other.

Aardman’s Beloved Duo Takes on VR

Wallace and Gromit have been captivating family audiences around the world for three decades. From their debut in Wallace & Gromit: A Grand Day Out (1989), they have entertained viewers in various adventures, including Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers (1993), Wallace & Gromit: A Close Shave (1995), and Wallace & Gromit: A Matter of Loaf or Death (2008). They even starred in the feature-length film Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005). With over 100 festival awards, including 3 Academy Awards® and 5 BAFTA® Awards, Wallace and Gromit have become international icons. Recently, they made their augmented reality debut in The Big Fix Up (2021), and a new Wallace & Gromit film is set to be released in 2024, directed by Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham.

A Team Effort to Create the VR Experience

Under the co-direction of Finbar Hawkins and Bram Ttwheam, Aardman is collaborating with Academy Award winner Nick Park, the creator of Wallace & Gromit, and Creative Director Merlin Crossingham to bring The Grand Getaway to life. Ben Whitehead, who has voiced Wallace in previous projects, including the late Peter Sallis, will once again lend his voice to the beloved character. The project is a co-production between Aardman and the award-winning creators of the VR experience Spheres and Gloomy Eyes at Atlas V, in association with No Ghost and Albyon. The immersive distributor and publisher Astrea, with support from the Meta Quest team, will be responsible for publishing and distributing Wallace & Gromit in The Grand Getaway.

With the Meta Quest VR technology, players will have the opportunity to explore the meticulously crafted environments, interact with the characters, and become fully immersed in the whimsical charm that has made Wallace & Gromit a beloved franchise.
