About Front Mission 1St Remake

Front Mission 1st Remake takes place in the year 2090, where conflicts between nations are waged using massive mechanized war machines called Wanzers. The story centers around Huffman Island, the sole land border shared by the Oceania Cooperative Union (O.C.U.) and the Unified Continental States (U.C.S.), and a hotspot for ongoing tensions.

Players assume the role of a member of either the O.C.U. or the U.C.S., each with their own campaign, and embark on an adventure set in a complex geo-political universe. As they progress, they will have the opportunity to customize their Wanzer, a formidable combat vehicle, tailoring it to their preferred playstyle. Enhance its firepower, defense, and speed, optimizing its combat efficiency to gain an edge over opponents.

Strategic thinking is paramount in Front Mission 1st Remake. Players must carefully consider the environment and utilize terrain features to develop effective strategies, allowing them to outmaneuver and overpower adversaries. The game offers two gameplay options: modern mode, which introduces new features, and the original gameplay mode, providing a nostalgic experience for long-time fans.

  1. This remake would be passable if not for the fact that, 1 year and 5 updates in, and even buying the “limited edition” version in hopes it would have some kind of fix, my game STILL crashes every hour or so (on the Switch), yes I’ve tried shutting the console entirely off and turning it back on. Yes, I deleted and re-downloaded the updates.

And yes, turning off battle animations about halves the frequency of the crashes.

But the thing is, these crashes shouldn’t be happening AT ALL. Not on a SNES/DS remaster, not on a console, and not after they’ve had an entire year and LE release to fix the problem. And I want to watch the battle animations, so sue me.

This game is so broken on the Switch, it’s far more fun to just go back and play the SNES or DS version, which is the same game, the same story, the same music (the audio remaster is OK; but nothing spectacular, the SNES music was just fine), the same enemy AI logic.

I’ve never played a “remaster” this terrible, and that’s saying something, even coming from a publisher like SE. They hired the wrong team, didn’t pay them enough to care, and clearly don’t give them enough time to bother making this game playable to completion, let alone enjoyable.
